‘One Is Able to Analyze ‘His Own Case. Alas “3: k : : : "By OLIVE ROBERTS BARTON ‘Letters from - young - people inVartably interest. me. In them I see the fesults of home conditions and Unhappy environment. But another
item seldom escapes me, and this is |:
the ability -of youth to analyze its Own cases and unconsciously reveal a certain self pity, = = = Says one young. woman, “I Feouldn’t marry the best . man on -earth, .after seeing how my father treats my mother. I have been repeatedly warned by my mother that if I married I would be a fool.” And then she proceeds to. say that her -mother , was. too hard on her, and had ted a .fear of men in her }
| Similar troubled letters come to me. One young girl admits she was spoiled. To ‘even things up, her mother has now resorted to harsh measures. : : : + It is, of course, the old story of why girls leave home. And why they become introspective -and- unhappy. .¥et-I believe there is something to de said about young people themselves, and their share in their own .unhappiness. Patience With Parents
If they could learn to live with what they have, it might help in a measure. If a parent is too unreasonable to understand the natural urges and cravings of these iyoung people, the way is not to antagonize that mother or father, ‘but to conform to a great extent, for in so doing, things are more likely to smooth out than. by using open defiance. : If young people are better versed in behavior than their parents, and many are today, it seems that they are in a position to educate the too strict father or the determined mother. Not by trying to tell them or ‘show them their mistakes, for this” would be adding fuel to the | fire, but by showing a willingness to cooperate and working from there. ; : + Once. the ‘parent gets the idea that he or she counts with the boy or girl, as well as a belief in the--goed judgment of their offspring, some good is sure to.come of .it. .Home - will be happier in the first place, when these young people stop .complaining, because many & rift between mother and father is caused by friction originating with the children themselves. we
Wah Potts’ To Stay Young, ." "Women Told
~~ By ALICIA HART .. A woman is no older. than her walk. Whether she is frankly 40, Diesdén China 50, or even older, and regardless of her weight and height she will look and feel young if her
- posture and her walk are definitely |
youthful. | . : Limbering and stretthing exercisés should be a definite part of every woman's beauty routine from the day following her 25th birthday. Even though she is just naturally thin, she will not seem young if her waistline muscles:are not flexible, chest high, backbone straight or if fer feet seem to drag when she walks. :
The older woman must keep in|
mind that the cute little way she walked when she was 20 will not be charming at 40. A youngster can
hop along. the street, breaking into |
a. trot now and then, sit on one foot or even slump in & chair when reading and perhaps get away with it. But her mother cannot. The moment a mature person Iosés her poise, Tuns when she should be walking, sits in curled up pose of slumps -even a little; she detracts from her greatest asset—poise. And Joss of poise makes her look -old— very old. nT As your birthdays pile up on you, do an extra posture exercise or two a couple of times a week. There’s
really no other way to make sure |
that you aren’t slipping—getting a
hollow in your back,” & protuding |
stomach, dowager’s lump on the pack of your neck, and $6 on. Even though you refuse to do reducing #xercisés and have long since given ‘ip’ the idea of ever being truly slender again, do posture exercisés anyway. - You may be overweight, but ou don’t have to ignore bad posRite, ‘do you? Or let your muscles become stiff and tense? “Think of your backbone 4s a straight line. Pull in your stomach, elevate your chest, force hips forward, making them look smaller from the rear. Now notice that the exaggerated hollow in the center of your back has disappeared. Keeping
chin at normal level, place hands |. behind ears and pull head ‘forward. |
This makes the lump at the top of the spinal column less obvious, too.

Cigaret Case Is New One of the prettiest gadgets is a small, square compact of prystal, framed in rippled gold-tone metal. The transparent plastic material from which the little vanity is made inspires one to see that the puff inside the case matches her costume. Also new is a cigaret case of tortoise shell catalin, framed to match the compact.
