’ : id Probe Resolution { % a . Passage Predicted Times Special .. WASHINGTON, Dec. 21.—Failure ‘ of automobile manufacturers to ob- ‘ ject to a Federal Trade Commission investigation’ of their dealer rela- _ tionships should insure passage of ‘ his resolution providing for such , an inquiry, Senator Minton said
“today. ; The Indiana Senator has introi duced in the upper house an iden“tical resolution to that presented "by Rep. Gardner R. Withrow (P. Wis.) and upon which hearings now are being -eonducted by the House «Interstate Commerce Committee. ~ It provides for a $50,000 appro~priation for the FTC to carry on can inquiry into the practices and ' policies employed by automobile “makers toward retail dealers. Appearing as president of the Au- | tomobile Manufacturers Association, | Alvan Macauley, Packard Motor Car Co. board president, told the House: .Committee that the - association “has no objection to the, proposed .inquiry if Congress decides that a useful public service will be ren“dered.” ; j In such case, the consumers should be protected at all costs, he “contended. ! . Informed of the Macauley testi“mony, Senator Minton predicted *that -it would be unnecessary for. ‘the Senate Interstate Commerce “Committee, of which he is a mem‘ber, to hold hearings on the resolution. . “It should be adopted by the Senate as soon as it passes the House at the regular session,” he + said. :
