Affair | May Be ‘Cause Celebre’
“Donald Louis Robinson”
MYSTERY’ PAR
STILL PUZZLE
Moscow May Order ‘Show Trial’ for Two With Fake Passports.
MOSCOW, Dec. 17 (U. P).—A
man and woman who entered Rus-.
sia on fraudulent American passports as “Mr. and Mrs. Donald L. Robinson,” may become the principals of an international “cause celebre,” it was indicated today. With the “Robinsons” under arrest, speculation centered upon their identity, charges upon which they are held and when they will be tried. The press department of the Foreign Office hinted that formal charges of a Trotskyist conspiracy might be brought against them. If they are convicted they would be sentenced automatically to death before a Red Army firing squad. A “show trial”. for the
“Robinsons” might be held. "Such a trial would be of interest
in the United States inasmuch as
the couple, according to the State Department in Washington, used a élever ruse to obtain American passports on the basis of birth certificates of children who died before 1915. However, it appeared today that the identity of the “Robinsons” and statements they have or have not made remained locked in the files of Lubianka Prison and their futures left to the determination of Soviet Justice.

43 Enrolled in Polar Bear Club Until Cold Wave.
Times Spevint : NIGHTSTOWN, Dec. 17—A dozen boys at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home arose at 6 a. m. today, noted the rising temperatures and grumbled. “What does the Weatherman think we are, sissies?” was the tone of their remarks. The lads, whose ages range from 12 to 18 years, are members of the Polar Bear Club, believed to be the only group of its kind whose membership is confined to boys. Members are required to take a “morning dip” in Lake Graham
every day from October to June. Last year 63 boys enrolled, but by January only 12 members remained “active.” This year 43 started, but the recent cold wave reduced the number to 12 again. None of the 12 has had medical attention during the club’s existe ence, Home ‘officials said.
U. S. LINER’S CREW TO DELAY PROTEST
LE HAVRE, France, Dec. 17 (U. P.).—The crew of the United States liner President Harding postponed today a protest march against the refusal of the ship’s captain to parmit them to radio a complaint to Washington. ‘Crew members had intended to march to the United States Consulate to make their protest but cancelled it because of the objections of the French police and bad weather. They will make their manifestation when the President Harding returns to New York.
