Supper Parties Fit in With Daily Routine Of Meals.
By MRS. GAYNOR MADDOX Ice cream and cake used to make
a party. But times change, and |
for the better. - American children today are pretty scientifically fed and a party is not supposed $0 break the regular cating habits of carefully raised children. But a party must be a party, having a touch of difference to ‘give pieasure to the little guests. So: modern mothers are hard put to it when junior asks his friends in for a “feast.” * : Many modern parents have abandoned the crush, or great crowd of youngsters ‘all at the same time. They ask a few children at/a time and thereby prevent the excitement and not necessarily happy confusion of the old-fashioned big affair. They ask the young guests to come about four in the afternoon and then give thHém a simple supper and let them go home early, hone the worse off for ‘their little adventure in “going out for supper.” “+ f These supper parties suggestions are for children of différent ages, compiled to conform with their daily routine: Ages, 3-5; 5:30 P. M. Cream of wheat with milk Whole wheat toast with jelly Vanilla ice cream. sponge cake : Ages, 5-9; 5:30 P. M. Cream of tomato soup Toast or rusks, buttered Boiled rice with cut up dates in it, cream I ‘Angel food cake, vanilla ice : cream
Ages, 9-12; 6 P. M.
Clear soup Creamed fresh asparagus on toast ! Baked potato Glass of milk Toast and jelly Strawberry ice cream and : plain cake Sometimes the mothers come to the party, too, and have supper with the host’s parents. It is better to serve the grown-up’s food in anothar room. Little shavers prefer it that way, and as a rule, mamas like to get off by themselves for a breathing spell. The following recipe is a tasty suggestion for the - grown-ups’ party supper.
Ring Mold of Rice and Mushrooms
(8 servings) . One and a half pound packages of wild rice, 3 pounds of mushrooms, 3 cups of milk, 1 cup of cream, 4 heaping tablespoons flour, 6 tablespoons butter, 1 cup pecan halves. - Cook rice and pack in a ring mold. Peel and remove stems from mushrooms, saute in five tablespoons butter, add flour, blend well, add milk and cream and stir until thick. Toast -nuts in the - ether tablespoon of butter. Turn mold of rice. on a very large platter. Fill enter with mushroom mixture to fwhich half of pecans have been ‘added. Garnish top with rest of * pecans. iy

for Next Spring
By ROSETTE HARGROVE | PARIS, Dec. 15.—~While women the world over have been busy making
to wear this winter, struggling with o on, the Paris creators have been
concerned with your spring styles, unveiled in the midseason collections.
Molyneux’s collection offers, as usual, fashions that are essentially “ladylike,” easy to wedr and elegant. Colors are sober, and while black still occupies first place in formal wear, it is alternated by dark greens, a reddish brown the color of old port, that undefinable shade known as egg-plant and some lighter shades of beige, including putty.
Daytime Necklines High
| The all-black dress is always relieved by a touch of [color and Molyneux’s latest idea is to complete it by a colored printed silk scarf in place of a waistbelt, or by a lame sash for dress-up occasions. Finely woven woolens and silk crepon are made up into simple little frocks that continue to show a high neckline, long, plain sleeves and skirts which feature a hint of fullness compared with the pencil slim silhouette of the August collection. Pressed pleats or sunray pleated gores break the monotony of these skirts in vertical lines.
| Suits are equally ‘simple, with skirts pleated and jackets short and
and nearly all finished with collars land revers in fur.
Extremes for Evening Afternoon and sports coats either

The tubular, almost hobble evening gown shares favors with the romantic picture frock. The former molds the figure and the slightest hint of fullness is introduced low down at the back. Scarf draperies starting from the decollete and carried to the back of the waistline where they form detached panel traing are featured, and there are some draperies reminiscent of the bustle but treated in a modern manner. The picture gown acquires width in a very gradual fashion from just below the hipline and is inclined to be less voluminous than those of three months ago. These

Decolletes are generous but far less revealing than with other creators. Dinner gowns are either long-sleeved or else show high bodices which leave the. shoulders bare. Skirts are long, almost shoetip length and many end in short trains. ‘Paquin’s new evening gowns are divided between the glamour-
