The committee was less than half way down the list when .it adjourned. Executive committee members, as well as Chairman Hamilton, en to speculate on selection of the chairman. Many of the committeemen were confident, however, that leadership in the committee charged with shaping the party’s future pol- ~ cles, would be denied the more conservative elements in an effort to revitalize the party that has lately been torn by. dissension. “The chairman will be a man capable of presenting to the public a picture of honesty and fearlessness in facing the nation’s problems,” Mr. Hamilton said. “He must be a

man of high standing and possess the courage for the job.”
