Detectives Report Youth, 19, Confesses to ‘Robbing Scores of Homes.

A ‘22-year-old filling station attendant lay wounded in Methodist Hospital today, the victim of a gunman’s bullet, William B. Smith, 516 E. 17th St.
told police that three Negroes drove | § into his station at Keystone Ave.|f
and the Millersville Road about 6 p. m. last night. Mr. Smith reported that while one
of them ordered five gallons of gas- |}
oline, another in the car pointed a revolver at him and said: “Give us
your money, at least $10 of it, or h
get shot.” - He said one of them came over to
search him when the man with the | 2
gun ordered him to “hand over your billfold.” Mr. Smith said he reached for his pocketbook in a back pocket and the gunman shot him,
. Struck in Thigh
The shot struck him in the right thigh. He was sent to Methodist Hospital where physicians reported his condition gs not serious. Detectives ‘today said Robert Strange, 19, living at a downtown hotel, had confessed to robbing nearly a score of homes in all sections of the City during the last few weeks. Strange was captured Saturday in the home of Paul Ashley, 1417 Wright St. Officers said they found him under a bed." Other homes which police said the youth confessed entering include those of Bessie Parks, 236 N. Holmes Ave.; George Karst, 665 Middle Drive Woodruff Place; Walter Wilson, 424 N. Delaware St.; D. Brazuer, 509 N, Illinois St.; Bertha Chambers, 31 N. Belmont Ave.; Hazel Guyant, 45 N. Dearborn St.; Ben Soltau, 101 N. Sherman Drive; George Garvey, 7 N. Woodland Drive; Margaret Messick, 828 E. Drive, Woodruff Place; Caroline Green, 46 S. Addison St.; Lawrence Lapkin, 1717 N. Dearborn St.; Agnes Simons, 615 Madison Ave.; Fred Dillingham, 1622 Pleasant St.; Fred Brandt, 1515 Pleasant St.; Alfred Carter, 205 N.
Mount St., Catherine Moran, 2225 |
Union St., and a residence at Fairfield and Winthrop Aves.
A 30-year-old Negro was held on| a vagrancy charge under high bond
today after he had been identified, police said, by Mrs. Harry Harold, 2029 Ruckle St., as the man who knocked her down and grabbed her purse several days ago.
Purse Snatcher Foiled
A Negro attempted to grab the purse of Miss Dorothy Moore, 22, of 2010 N. Capitol Ave., as she alighted from a street car Sunday night, but fled when-she screamed. A man who slugged W. G. Dorrell, 52; of 134 W. Vermont St., as he walked on Virginia Ave. near the Union Railway elevation, escaped with $22, it was reported to police. Mr. Dorrell said he believed the man struck him with a reveolver. Two Negroes Saturday night held ° up a market at 2634 Rader St. and escaped with $40, according tp police. Barney Potkin, 39, of 2058 Bellefontaine St, reported that one of the bandits held a gun on a store customers while the other rifled the cash register. He also took a watch valued at $65 from Mr. Potkin, police said. | Burglars who rifled the safe in

Plumbing and Heating Co., 233 Virginia Ave. evidently were disappointed when they reached their retreat and opened two lock boxes. T. 8. Collins, office proprietor, said there was nothing in them but papers.
Whiskies Are Stolen
A large quantity of assorted whiskies and cigarets were. stolen. last night from the William Scheerar Drug Store, 5229 E. Washington St., according to police.

said the loot included five cases and ! 150 bottles of assorted whiskies, 40 cartons of cigarets and $5 in cash. Entrance to the store had been gained htrough a small window. : The theft of $75 in tools and paint brushes from his garage at 1248 Nordyke Ave. was reported to police today by Oscar Lore, 55, proprietor of the garage.
5 REPORTED HURT IN BELGRADE RIOTING
BELGRADE, Dec. 13 (U.P.).—
Rioting broke out today as police,
charged several thousand student demonstrators gathered at the railroad station to cheer Yvon Delbos, French Minister, and denounce Italian and Fascist sympathizers. Scores were arrested. (Exchange Telegraph dispatches to London said two students were
killed and many were injured as|{
police fired on the “anti-Govern-ment” demonstrators.) Official Government reports said five persons were injured, but denied any were killed.
