WALK LIGHTS’ SUGGESTED BY SAFETY LEAGUE

Installation Is Urged by

President in Letter To Morrissey.

The newly-formed Indianapolis Civic Safety League today suggested the installation of “walk” lights on downtown automatic traffic signals. In a letter to Chief Morrissey, H. L. Barr, president, said: J “This suggestion is that all trafic signals in the downtown'area have the word ‘walk’ painted on the change light; and the light so timed that sufficient time will bs given between the change for pedestrians to cross at intersections. : “It would seem that this could ‘be saccomplished without undue trouble

or expense. The further sugestion has been made that the signal lights in the residential districts be so timed that they will not change so rapidly from green fo red, thereby giving ‘th eoperator of a car approaching an infersection' time enough to stop without being caught in the middle of the intersection by rapid change of signals.” : The league also asked the co-op-eration of filling station operators in the safety campaign. “There are about 800 filling stations in Marion County with a total of between 2000 and 2500 attendants. If each’ of these attendants were to mention to the car-operator that he is interested in safety, this

Thanksgiving turkeys averaged 33 cents a pound throughout the nation, but today. prices for America’s native bird ranged 4 cents less, on the average, around 29 cents a pound, with dealers in some cities reporting a drop of 4 cents from the Thanksgiving price. Substitutes for turkey, however, remained around the Thanksgiving level with only two or three cities reporting a drop in the price of ducks, geese and chickens.
