dollar.
It’s not just an ordinary dollar,®
however, Mr. Devore will have you
|; know, because it bears the date of
588 -with the Jetter “S” minted on it. - He decided on the extra precautionary measures against theft when he heard a commentator on the radio say coins of that description were worth -200 times their face value, he said, = Several months ago, Mr. Devore said he was given the dollar by John Keller, a neighbor.
Made in Birth Year
“I just kept it because it was made the same year (1885) that I was born. - I gave it to my mother in Logansport and told her to keep it for a keepsake,” Mr. Devore explained. : Then in July, Mr. Devore heard that an 1885 silver dollar with the “S” mint mark on it was worth $50. “I told mother about it, but decided not to investigate because I Vajied the coin as a keepsake,” he said. When he heard that it was worth $200. he lost no time in writing a coin collector to make a deal. He hasn't ‘received a reply yet, however. Only 10 Like It
=. Mr. Devore said that according to an old coin catalog there were only 10 silver dollars “struck off” in 1885 with the “S” on them and that only four are in circulation. "Mr. Devore and some friends at the statics” said Mr. Keller was plainly “put. ou ” about “passing up” the coin. .- “Are you. going to split with him,” Mr. Devore was asked. : “Hardly,” he | answered. “If he hadn’t given it to me, he would have given’ it to someone else.”
