Decline Continues

The decline continued during the | first two weeks of November, Widespread “hand-to-mouth” purchasing on part of domestic and commercial buyers was noticeable last month. “This is evidence of the great caution that is being exercised hy business and the result of the persistent weakness in both stock and commodity markets, the steep downward trend of various industries, notably iron and steel, and the sluggish trade activity,” the review stated. | Uncertainty in quarters where | business is good was noted last | month,” it stated.

Payvrolls Maintained

In Indianapolis employment declined slightly in durable goods industries, but payrolls were maintained. The most significant employment declines were noted in the iron and steel and transportation | equipment industries, | Employment in nondurable goods industries fell off as much as 7 per cent and weekly payrolls 6 per cent, The seasonal contraction of the canning and preserving ihdustry was | a
