Jobless Count at 15,000 and Going Up

COMPLAINTS oN FREIGHT SCALE

Protests Filed by Indiana C. of C. and Continental Steel Corp.

The Indiana Public Service Commission today said it would hold public hearings Jan. 11 on protests against new freight rates proposed by Indiana railroads on intrastate shipment of manufactured iron and steel products. The complaints were filed by the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce, which protested proposed rates on shipments from Indiana points to other places in Indiana located in the “Chicago Shipping District” in the Calumet area, and bv the Continental Steel Corp, which protested rates on interplant sh ipm ents between its Kokomo and | Indianapolis plants.

ANTISMOKE DRIVE'S APPROVAL EXPECTED

Abatement League to Back City’s Efforts.

The Indianapolis Smoke Abatement League today was expected to approve the three-point program outlined Tuesday by its special com-

mittee and Mayor Boetcher. . The league was to meet in the Washington Hotel. Roy O. Johnson, secretary, said the organization also is to take steps toward co-ordinating ‘ts smoke campaign with the City’s. A committee composed of Mr. Johnson, Dr. Herman G. Morgan, Health Board secretary, and Mrs. M. I. Miller outlined with Mayor Boetcher a program calling for a vigorous education campaign, enforcement of the City’s smoke code and efforts to furnish smokeless fuel to Indianapolis households at a reasonable price.
