The Butler football squad practiced until after dark last night, as Coach Tony Hinkle attempted to whip the Bulldog gridders shape for Saturday's season finale at Butler Bowl against Western State Teachers’ College of Kalama200, Mich. Dissatisfied with the Bulldogs’ power attack as displayed in last week's scoreless tie with Wabash, Coach Hinkle drilled the local squad

State defense. Last season Butler defeated Western State, 13-7, on Andy Boa's pass

Greenleaf Defeated By Irving Crane

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 11 (U. P). —Irving Crane, sensational Livonia, N. Y., cue wizard, was close on the heels "today of Willie Mosconi of Philadelphia, first-place holder in the world pocket billiard championship, as result of a brilliant 125-to-72 triumph over defending titlist Ralph Greenleaf of Bozman, Md. Crane’s victory toppled Greenleaf, 15-time champion, from a first place tie with Mosconi, and put the youthful central New Yorker into second with seven victories out of nine starts. Mosconi has six wins against one defeat, and Greenleaf six wins against two losses. In the audience watching Crane, a bridegroom of only two weeks, was Jerome Keogh, his coach and champion at the turn of the century.

Cards Plan to Trade Martin

St. Louis Boss Says Pepper Can Stay Till ‘Playing Days Are Over.

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 11 (U. P.).—The plans of the hot stove league (0 sell or trade John “Pepper” Martin from the St. Louis Cardinals were jolted by the announcement of Branch Rickey, Cardinal vice president, that he wants Pepper around “until his playing days are over.” If—and it is conceded that it may be a big “if”—the present plans ot

will not be sold or traded. In answer to questions about reported deals between the Cards and the Chicago Cubs or the Brooklyn Dotisers for the Oklahoman, Rickey said: Remember 1931 Series

“Why should we do that? Have we forgotten the 1931 world series? Have we forgotten the greatness of this ball player? Well, I can truth-

dinals have no intentions of selling Pepper Martin.” Rickey, who has something of a | reputation as an orator at political | rallies in southeastern and eastern Missouri, had even more to say about the Wild Horse of the Osage, as fans here know the swarthy outfielder, “It is my hope at this time,” Rickey roared, pounding on his desk for emphasis, ‘that Pepper | Martin will never be sold or traded. It is my hope that he will close his playing career with the Cardinals in Sportsman's Park, where he has done his bit to make baseball a thrilling sport.”

May Play 100 Games

Rickey admits that Martin can't play a full schedule of games any more, but he says that the Cardinal management will be satisfied with about 90 or 100 games each season from Martin. “Whenever he’s in a ball game | Pepper's giving you everything— and that's plenty,” Rickey says. Pooh-poohing reported troubles of last season between Martin and Frankie Frish, Rickey asserted, “Frankie knows how to handle Pepper and they get along swell.”

He has been blind | since he was 3. His roommate explains the play at Franklin Field, but Allman is not content with just a sketchy description. He wants to know about interference, blocking and scientific aspects of the game. Allman “saw” the Penn-Cornell ! game last Thanksgiving in the press stand with a radio sports announcer. “In the press stapd, I found what I wanted,” he said. “The men there are experts. They talk it over and I get a composite picture.” \ Allman hopes to win the championship in the wrestling class this year,
