NDIANA'S stunning defeat of Ohio State, 10-0, Saturday, supplied Hoosier football fans with a choice bit of grid orating today. ... It was the Fighting Hoosiers’ second Big Ten victory in three starts and virtually assures Bo McMillin’'s team of a high finishing position in the Western Conference. .. . Iowa and Purdue remain on Indiana’s schedule and the warriors from Bloomington will be the choice of the impartial dopesters in both battles with opinions based strictly on form. ... It was Indiana’s first victory over the Buckeyes since 1924 and like Notre Dame in 1935, threw the Columbus section into deep mourning. . . . The defeat was Ohio's first in the Big Ten following triumphs over Purdue, Northwestern and Chicago. The Hoosiers’ passing game clicked for one touch{own. and George Miller, ace center, booted a field goal and also kicked the point after the touchdown. . .. The scoring pass was from Filchock to Petrick. s =" = 'MILLIN’S men completed five out of eight pass attempts to astound a dazed crowd of Ohio State followers. . . . It’s true that the Bucks got a bad break at the start when their Kabealo fumbled on the Indiana one-yard line and lost the ball on an Indiana recovery, but the Hoosiers were alert, strong on defense and fired with a determination to break the jinx which pursued them in the Minnesota and Nebraska games. It was time for the Indiana bomb to explode and a good Ohio State team had the misfortune to be the Hoosiers’ opponent on that day. » 5 = ROUSED by a Notre Dame touchdown in the third period after a scoreless first half, Pitt's Panthers assembled their power, turned it on and crushed the Irish in the fourth quarter by registering three touchdowns and kicking all points to win the intersectional tilt at South Bend, 21-6. . . . Notre Dame's forwards were worn down by the fierce charges of Pitt's rugged backs and the Irish line is entitled to credit
for standing up under a pounding for three periods without allowing
the veteran Pitt team tec score. Goldberg of the Panthers lived up to his reputation as an ace, but Stebbins, his halfback running mate, and Patrick at fullback, also piled up the yardage once they got going. . . . Stebbins, especially, convinced many onlookers that he rates with Goldberg.

2 ” TOTRE DAME’ scoring pass was a beauty, McCarthy to Puplis, but N when Puplis missed the extra point the Irish seemed to sense trouble. . . . However, there were signs of Pitt superiority in the scoreless first half as the powerful Pitt line checked Notre Dame's running game. . . . And the Notre Dame replacements were not strong enough to permit sufficient rest for the regulars. Fordham trounced Purdue, 21-3, in the New York attraction and left the Boilermakers with a record of three victories and three defeats. _. . Cecil Isbell kicked a field goal in the first period to put Purdue in front. but the Rams were strong in all departments, uncorked a versatile attack and tallied two touchdowns in the third period and one in
the fourth,
=
= = . HOWING unexpected strength, the Wabash Little Giants lived up to their name and surprised the husky Butler Bulldogs by getting a scoreless tie out of the annual clash at Butler Bowl. . .. It was an exciting contest for the fans as the old rivals fought up and down the field trying to break the deadlock. . . . At one time Wabash was stopped a vard from the Bulldog's goal line and Butler had the ball three yards from pay dirt when the game ended. . . . Twenty-seven first downs were made, 17 by Butler, 12 by Wabash. Bota teams fought savagely when goals were threatened and there was enough fireworks to give the spectators an interesting afternoon. __. The tie clinched the Indiana College Conference title for Butler which it was defending this year. . .. The Bulldogs are undefeated in conference play while all other members have lost at least one game.

Duy ran wild and at Greencastle removed Earlham from the
undefeated state conference bracket. . .. The Tigers piled up a score of 33-0. ... The winners turned loose fine running and passing attacks and the Quakers were swamped under a barrage of 20 DePauw downs. . . . A pass interception in the first period settled a teachers’ argument at Terre Haute as Ball State defeated Indiana State, 7-0. . .. Rathburn grabbed an Indiana State toss and ran for touchdown. in a free scoring game at Lebanon, Ill, Rose Poly finished on the lone end, 26-13, over McKendree College. . . . Franklin rolled up 13 first downs and upset Hanover, 12-0....It was the Grizzlies’ best performance of the fall. 5 & = ALPARAISO had an easy day with Evansville and won, 33-0... . The Evansville team has lost all starts and has failed to score a single point this season. . . . Trailing Albion and with only three minutes to go, Manchester rallied, took to the air and scored a touchdown and point, winning, 7-6. . St. Joe downed Central Normal in a frenzied affair at Danville, 20-12... . / All scores were made on long marches. . . . Manchester, Earlham and Central Normal completed
their schedules Saturday.

: | Convention Report Criticizes |
A. A. U. Definition.
MIAMI BEACH, Fla, Nov. 8. (U. P.)—The Amateur Athletic Union is “making liars and cheats out of younger athletes,” J. B. Lemon, Florida's representative to the A. A.
Saturday, said today in a convention report. Lemon criticised the A. A. U. definition of an amateur athlete, which he termed “out-moded.” He urged that the rule be given broader
sports leaders of the country.” If A. A. U. does not take action soon, he said, it will give rise to a new organization that will foster amateur sports and that will enforce reasonable amateur rules and regulations.” The A. A. U. now defines an amateur as “one who engages in sport solely for the pleasure and physical, mental or social benefits he derives therefrom and to whom sport is nothing more than an avocation.” “It is a known fact that there are only a few athletes in the country today that could qualify under the definition of an amateur as the rule

BRIGHTWOOD TEAM TAKES LEAGUE TITLE
The Brightwood Merchants, undefeated Smith-Hassler-Sturm Senior League champions, today had completed their second straight league campaign without a loss. Yesterday the Merchants trounced Beech Grove, 38-0, to clinch the 1937 loop title, with only eight points scored against them in two years. Wilson, Wellman and Oyler, backs, and Mello, center, were outstanding for the Merchants in yesterday's triumph. Highlight of the game was Oyler’s 60-yard touchdown dash.
Holy Cross won second place in the Smith-Hassler-Sturm Senior League by defeating Broad Ripple, 2-0, at Christian Park. The winners’ victory margin came when they blocked a Broad Ripple punt and the ball rolled out of bounds behind the end zone.

French Team May Not Be| Sent to Tokyo.
PARIS, Nov. 8 (U. P.).—The question of whether France will send a team to the 1940 Olympics in Tokyo in the face of rising anti-Japanese sentiment will be decided by Foreign Minister Yvon Delbos, the French Olympic Committee announced today. Committee Chairman Armand Massad, accompanied by Sports Minister Leo La Grange, will shortly consult Delbos at Chautemps on the question, and also regarding a Government subsidy for financing a | French team. Yugoslavia'’s Olympic Committee has asked the French body to join a movement to withdraw the games from Tokyo and transfer them to Finland on the grounds that “Japan's political attitude does not conform to Olympic ideals of fraternity among nations.” Massad siad a final decision would not be made until after the International Olympic Committee meeting in Cairo, Egypt, next March when it will be decided whether rules covering amateurism can be amended so as to permit reimbursing athletes for time lost from work while traveling to and from the games.
