U. $. 40 DETOUR IN EFFECT SINCE MAY REMOVED
State Road 221 Also Opened, Highway Commission Announces. |
| Removal of the detour on U. S. Highway 40 from Manhattan to west of Stilesville was announced today by the State Highway Commission. The detour on this important Fast-West route has been in effect
since May. Another detour was lifted from | Indiana 221 north of Indiana 22, and one added during the week on Indiana 246 extending east 5 miles from near Lewis. Detours marked over city streets are Indiana 2 in Goshen and U. Ss. 30 in Schererville. Other detours for closed roads are marked as follows: Indiana 2—North of Hebron, three miles
over county stone roa Indiana 3—South of Westport, one mile over county stone road, Indiana 13—From Wabash north, 20 miles over Roads 15 and 114 Indiana 21-—-South of Richmond, one mile over county gravel road From Muncie north, eight miles over Roads 3 and 28 U. 8 31 Sst east of Seymour, one-half mile over gravel road From Peru north passenger cars, 142 miles over Roads 19 and 16, trucks detour over Roads 24 and 25 \ it Indiana 32—From Muncie east, 3 miles over city streets and county oil mat Indiana 34—From U, S. 41 to Waynetown, passenger cars 18 miles over county gravel and Indiana 25 trucks detour over Roads 41 and 47 U. 8 35-From Muncie north, eight miles over Roads 3 and 28 Indiana 44—West of Shelbyville, nine miles over county gravel and pavement From Shelbyville to Rushville, 26 miles over Roads 20, 244 and 3 {Traffic may travel new road at their own risk as long as barricades are not erected.) 1. 8. 50—Just west of Brownstown two miles over county gravel Just east of Sevmour. one-half mile over gravel road U. 8 52—From West Lafayette nortl, northbound traffic three miles over county gravel, southbound four miles ove: county gravel and Indiana 26 Indiana 62—From Indiana 66 at Leavenworth to Corydon, 37 miles over Roads 66, 64 and 135 indiana 234—From Indiana 47 to Indiana 43, six miles over Indiana 47, county oil mat and Indiana 43 Indiana 246—From four miles east of Lewis east five miles over county gravel (Bridge on this detour has three-ton gross load limit.)

162-MILE ROAD WORK | DONE IN 3 MONTHS
Farl Crawford, State Highway Commission chairman, announced today that grading and paving projects on 1628 miles of Indiana roads were completed during July, August and September. Several construction jobs have een completed during the’ past month, he said, and others are scheduled for completion during the next two weeks. The Highway Commission was able to keep up with its work scheduled because of the early awarding of contracts and generally favorable eather conditions, Mr. Crawford said.

At least one Indianapolis man today had an early start on his Thanksgiving dinner, Claude Tevis, 51, of 3110 N. Sherman Drive, reported to police that someone entered an unlocked shed last night and stole $14 worth of turkeys and chickens.
