Boetcher Seeks Legal Opinion Betore Signing Barbers’ Bill
Mavor Boetcher, a
fter hearing protests by a delegation representing
nine downtown barber shops, said today he would seek a legal opinion on the new City ordinance regulating barber shop uy before Yaktinng ¥ action.
The ordinance was passed Monday night by Council and is awaiting the Mavor’s signature. Philip Lutz Jr. former Attorney General, who ex-
plained he represented several shop | owners, has said he would test con- |
stitutionality of the ordinance, which limits hours from 7 a. m, 7:30 p. m. on week davs. Henry Bowsher, spokesman for the delegation of objectors, told Mayor Boetcher “this ordinance will pu the barber business back 15 years.” He said it “possibly might lead to the
discharge of 20 barbers in the down- |
town area.”

Charles Bailey Wins Fight to | Quash Affidavit.
Charles Bailey, former Washing- | ton assessor, was freed of embezzle(ment charges by Special Judge | Frank Symmes in Criminal Court Foe In an affidavit signed by Policeman John Dugan in April, 1935, Mr. Bailey was charged with failing to turn over to his successor $3026 in | dog tax receipts. His attorney. James Rocap, claimed that under a 1927 act, an as- | sessor was not required to give the | | receipts to his successor, but to the | township trustee. In June, 1935, the money was paid to Charles M. Daw- | son, Washington Township trustee, according to records. Later, a motion to quash the affidavit was denied by Criminal Court | Judge Frank P. Baker, and the de- | fense asked a change of judge. Mr. Symmes was chosen and today sustained Attorney Rocap’s motion to quash.
