Fall Levy Before Penalty Will Be Evoked. |

With only 11 days left in which | to pay on time the fall installment | of persenal and property taxes, | Frank McKinney, Marion County | Treasurer, today announced 59 ad- | ditional places where money orders in payment of taxes will be received, | Previously 57 American EXpress | Money order substations had been | named by Mr. McKinney as tax paying offices. Under a new plan, all local postofTice substations now may be used. Mr. McKinney said virtually every drugstore in the outlying sections of | the city is available to taxpayers | who wish to avoid crowds at the | Court House. | The procedure for money order | payments follows: Taxpeyers must write the treas- | urer’s office, enclosing a self-ad-dressed envelope. The tax bill will be mailed to the taxpayer who may then obtain, through the nearest pay | station, a money order. This, to-| gether with the duplicate, will be | accepted through the mails at the | county office. | Mr. McKinney also announced tlie | Courthouse office will remain open | until 4 p. m. Saturday, Oct. 21 and | 30 He reminded taxpayers that a | penalty of 8 per cent of the year’s taxes will be assessed persons who | fail to pay their installment by | Nov. 1. The Postoffice substations are lo- | located at 1736 Montcalm St, Wm. | H. Block Co., 50 N. Illinois St.; 3401 W. Michigan St., 2021 W. Washing= ton St, 1363 S. Meridian St, 2502 Central Ave, 943 N. TOWNSEND PRAISES WORK OF RED CROSS

Lauds Co-operation With State During Flood.

Indiana members of the American Red Cross today continued their convention here after hearing Gov- | ernor Townsend declare last night (that “the {friendship between the | State government and the Red Cross

had been strengthened by close cooperation during the trying flood days of January, 1937.” Other speakers in War Memorial Auditorium yesterday said that the strength of the organization lies in

an ever increasing membership, and urged that workers ready themselves for the annual membership drive Nov, 11 to 25. The Governor continued: “While there were epidemics of sickness, fires and drownings in other states, fortunately Indiana was so well patrolled that these were prevented in our state. The success of the Indiana program was due in

large part to the centralization of authority, “It was a pleasure for the State government and its various agencies to co-operate with the Red Cross during the flood. From the very beginning, the Red Cross generously gave of its advice and resources to combat the flood and bring relief to its victims.”
