Clubs Plant Fish With Aid of State

Large and small mouth black bass, bluegills and other game fish propagated in hatchery ponds operated hy 163 conservation clubs, have been planted in nearby lakes and streams, Virgil M. Simmons, conservation commissioner, said today. The plantings were completed during the week and reports indicate that the production will be bigger than in 1936 when more than a million fish were propagated. This year the 163 clubs, operating under contracts with the Division of Fish and Game, produced fish in 400 ponds with a total water area of 250 acres. Fish propagated in the state hatcheries also are being planted this month

Percy Haughton, ‘who was the first major campus coach to tip off the | cash customer, start off too cold. | They take it for granted that the fan has a friend in the ticket office who can seat him at any line desig- | nated. The average gridiron client takes what, he gets—and likes it. In his effort to wise up the innocent bystander, your college coach assumes that if the spectator knows Just where to look he will carry away a picture of attack and defense that will dovetail like the dance program of the belle of the prom. As a matter of cold fact, two or three scouts. cach watching particular assign-

| ments, most often will fail to bring | back a comprehensive scheme of the |

enemy's stratagems and style West Point has the correct dope It sends out 11 men, skilled in the map-making artistry of the signal corps. They piece together their diagrams and impressions and. I believe, give to the Army football machine the most intelligent and complete service in the country.

Behind the Goal Posts

The best way to watch a football | game is to see what you see. Don't ! fight for a scat at the 50-yard line. ! The idea that a place in the exact middle of the ficld gives you a big advantage is an obsolete one whieh

| is kicked apart in almost every con-

test. It goes back to the days where limited schemes of offense kept the leather moving between the 20-yard lines, and punting was rated the most effective and reliable agent for ball movement. Football has become & scoring affair, Even the big games, with defense tightened up to the highest pitch, develop repeated marches. If you are down by the 20-yard line, you will see the scoring punch delivered, and get a chance to gloat over the bird who s0 proudly | showed off his 50-yard tickets. Football coaches very often will tell you that the best place from which to watch a game is behind | the goal posts. For the coach, for | scouts looking for certain things— | fine and dandy. For the man in the | street and his football femme, a | spot along the side lines has it all over that location behind the posts. Sitting behind those goal lines, you will note the massing of the defense. You will see the line assign- | ments better, and you will get a | mass picture of the offense crowding toward its score,

nent named by the management. Matchmaker Lloyd Carter has seve eral wrestlers in mind, among them Irish Dan O'Connor, Orville Brown | and George (Crv Baby) Zaharias. Billy Thom, Indiana University wrestling coach, will appear in a special semi-windup.

“Every once in a while make a determined effort to analyze the defensive line,” the coach's “how to watch” will admonish you And

| while you are gluing the glims on

the defensive line, which at that particular moment is spending a nice, easy interlude on its mass back, a guy by the name of Kelley is booting a loose ball along the ground for a subsequent score--and a new rule, In every coach’s heart there is a certain amount of resentment that the backs achieve the headlines and the linemen, who do so much of the hard work, get no more mention than the No. 3 sweep on a crew,
