CORNELL RETAI
Merits Honor by Trouncing Strong Princeton Team, 20-7; Texas Aggies Placed Second
Defeat of Arkansas by Baylor Termed Most Surprising Upset; System Has Efficiency of 89 Per Cent, Disregarding Ties.
; By PAUL B. WILLIAMSON ORNELL retained its position as the nation’s outstanding
team after putting away Princeton's powerful Tigers, 20to0 7 A handful of prominent favorites dropped their ganies to cause an unwarranted emphasis on upsets last week-end. The reversals in a dozen or so games is about average for the week-ends this season, but the big names kicked down attracted unusual attention. The games reported for the week-end gave the Williamson system a statistical efficiency of 87.6 per cent, or 89 per cent disregarding ties. That compares closely with the season’s efficiency of 88 per cent with 83 clear-cut tipsets against the system in 855 games, or 89 per cent disregarding ties. Several of the upsets last week-end were predicted by | this system as possible. Few of them greatly jarred the | ratings. Probably the largest reversal was Baylor's 20-to-14 | victory over Arkansas, but the Williamson system predicted | it as possible. | Yale's great halfback, Clint Frank, led his eleven to a | 27-to-7 triumph over Penn for an upset, although this col- | § umn in giving Penn the nod predicted it as a tossup game. | The Texas Aggies advanced to second place in the national rating after defeating Mississippi State, 14 to 0, in| one of the upsets. That upset is a mark against the reverse |
son ratings, which ranked the Aggies higher.

Texas Aggies’ jump from 11th position to second place | represents a substantial climb in the upper strata of order of ranking, but actually the change in the rating was small.
