One of the British Embassy party was flight Lieut. S. S. Murray. A bullet nearly hit Mr. Murray's foot while those in the cars were running to fields to escape the attack. H. M. Braham. a member of the consular staff, also was in the party. In the party, assistant air attache and the consulate attache, were Consul General Herbert Phillips, Wing Commander H S. Kerb, air attache, E. Hall Pz‘ch, British Embassy financial adviser, and Lieut. Francesco Riebzzi of the Italian Navy. Hall Patch was present when Japanese planes attacked the British ambassador's car. The incident today was regarded all the more seriously because it was learned that the British Embassy notified Japanese authorities that the cars were leaving Nanking for Shanghai.
