Brown and Monroe Counties To Be Served by New District.

Dr. Verne K. Harvey, State Health Director, today announced establishment of a new district health department at Bloomington to serve Brown and Monroe Counties. This unit, he said, is to work with local medical groups in the development of a public health porgram. It also is to co-operate with the Indiana University School of Education by organizing a field service for students interested in public health. Dr. Henry G. Steinmetz, former Cass County Medical Society president, was named department direc--tor. He is to be assisted by two nurses. Dr. Harveys also announced the appointment of Dr. Wendell D. Kelly, Princeton, as director of the district’ department serving Posey, Gibson, Pike and Warrick Counties. There now are five district health departments and one county de; partment under jurisdiction of the State Health Board.

DETROIT, Oct. 1 (U. P.). —Homer Martin, United Auto Workers’ Union president, today changed his mind about a trip to Washington to con-

fer with John IL. Lewis, chief of the Committee for Industrial Organization.

As a sequel to a hectic, seriocomic day in which Mr. Martin was

besieged yesterday by rank-and-file member sof his union, on whom he is reported to have pulled a pistol. A plane reservation made for Mr. Martin used by a subordinate, who said he would not see Mr. Lewis.

Counties Announced Through P. S. C.

The Indiana Public Service Commission anonunced today that it had defined territories to be served by privately owned utilities and the Rural Electric Mstmbersnip Corp. in 28 counties.
