$10,000 SLASH FOR CIVIL CITY BUDGET SLATED
Cuts Tentatively Voted by Board After Final Review of Items.
- The Marion County Tax Adjustment Board today tentatively voted $10,600 cuts ih the Civil City budget request in a final item-by-item review. Final vote on the city budget may come tomorrow, Board members said. ; At the same time Mayor Boetcher agreed to a 1-cent cut in the Civil City’s proposed rate of $1.2947 when
{ he told the Board that the slash could be made because the Citizens Gas & Coke utility is expected to pay the city $50,000 in lieu of taxes. The utility paid the money this year but has not expressed itself regarding the payment in 1938. When final vote is taken on the Civil City budget, it is expected that an additional reduction of several cents will be made. Final votes on all budgets must be taken by Friday. The Board is expected to go into night sessions beginning tonight. Items voted tentatively out of the City budegt today were: Reduction in the. county election item from $40,000 to $37,500. The cut is that portion of the estimated amount which the city would have to reimburse the county for its share of the general election cost next fall. Chief Deputy County Clerk Charles R. Ettinger earlier had held the city’s estimates of the election cost was $2500 high. The Mayor's contingent fund of $5000.
