-Commission a second amendment to its proposed new rules to provide that the City Building Code would govern the size of service lines run‘ming from mains to property lines.
Next Wednesday, the Cemmission |.
is to hold a public hearing on all proposed amendments which, if adopted, are to govern the utility’s relationship to its customers. The company last December filed its proposed new rules with the Commission and a hearing was held on them in January. Before the Commission took final action, the utility then filed proposed amendments in May to its December re- -. quest. Service Lines an Issue
The public hearing is to be held
on these May amendments and the new one brought in today. Included in these amendments is a provision on replacement of service lines. Under-the Commission ruling now in effect, the property owner installs “his own service lines from his property to the main. The utility then maintains these lines and replaces them when necessary. Under the proposed amendments the company would agree to maintain the lines but would not replace them if more than six feet of pipe is needed. Neither would the company be liable for damage done to the lines by severe winter weather, it was said. During the winter of 1935-36 it is estimated the utility repaired or replaced more than 1500 pipes.

Tip to Visitors: Don’t Ask ft or City Key Today
In case someone entitled to a key to the City shows up today at City Hall, he would be out of luck. Because the supply of keys has not yet been brought up to date and each bears the name of John W. Kern, So today Joseph Tynan, secretary
to Mayor Boetcher, sent the wooden keys—11 of them—down to “the Street Department wood-working shops and ordered Mayor Boetcher’s name painted over Mr. Kern's. That's one of the things a Mayor's secretary has to think about.
ENGINEER EXPLAINS TREE SURVEY HERE
Carl Kortepeter, WPA Sixth district engineer, today explained the survey of City-owned trees now being conducted by the Works Progress Administration under the supervision of the Park Board. He said the survey was necessary to enable the City to carry on a systematic program of tree-planting and beautification under which more than 35,000 trees were planted this spring.
THIEF FLEES POLICE DURING AUTO CHASE
An alleged gasoline thief escaped from police today in a half-mile
chase over North Side streets. Officers reported they were cruising in the 600 block of Congress Ave. when they saw a gasoline can and siphon behind a parked car. While they investigated, another car parked nearby pulled away from the curb at a high speed, they said. Police chased the automobile to the 900 block on Eugene St., where the car had struck a tree. Officers said the driver fled on foot. Sergt. Charles Burkett fired one shot at him but the man escaped, it was reported.
