SEES NO CHANCE FOR REMUCTION IN MEAT PRICES
Agriculture Department Predicts No Change for » Balance of Year.
WASHINGTON, . Sept. 17 (U. P) —Butchers’ prices on pork, beef and lamb will continue at the “present relatively high levels” at least during the remainder of this year, Department of Agriculture economists predict. Feeder stocks of the three principal meat animals are far below normal and marketings this fall will be maintained, the Bureau of Agri- ‘ cultural Economics said. : The light supply is a result of the ,1934 and 1936 droughts. Many farmers were forced to sell ‘their stock. High prices of feed increased the cost of finished animals and caused farmers to keep little breeding stock. : Change in Spring. With bumper feed crops in prospect this fall and prices of feed considerably lower, the number of hogs, cattle and sheep on farms may be | experted to increase considerably, the economists said. F.D. R-LEWIS BREAK UNLIKELY
C. I. 0.s Fear That House Is Unfriendly Is Diminishing.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 (U. P.). —The threat of a break between President Roosevelt and John L. Lewis diminished today as a result of developments that appeared to relieve fears of the C: I. O. chairmar that the Administration generally was adopting an unfriendly attitude toward his labor organization. Sources close to Mr. Lewis emphasized that he remained on guard against what C. I. O. leaders had regarded as a change in Administration policy extending from the White House to all Government departments and which they believed put them at a disadvantage in their conflict with the American Federation of Labor. The C. I. O. chairman, they said, was in earnest in his attacks on the Administration attitude and, in order to survive the labor struggle,

a risky third party effort.
Dangers of labor turning to a third party will be cited tonignt in
ous union foe, President William Green of the A. F. of L. President Green was expected to assail Mr. Lewis for seeking “special privilege” in connection with his $500,000 contribution to the 1936 Democratic campaign and will warn labor that it stands in danger of being left “holding the bag” if it attempts to organize a third party. Mr. Roosevelt, on the other hand, could break with Mr, Lewis, retain

There's no mistaking the family resemblance between the bride of Capt. Edward Colston Dyer, U. S. Marines, and the [recently married Duchess of Windsor. High cheek bones, strong chin, coiffure, mouth and large nose make Frances Montague Hill look almost the
double of Wallis Warfield, her famous cousin, who married the former King of Englend, Miss Hill and Capt. Dyer were married at Flint
marketings, however, may not begin before next spring. Marketings of hogs this fall and early winter probably will show-a smaller than usual seasonal increase because the large corn crop will in-
duce farmers to feed hogs to heavier weights, the bureau said. The price to farmers may decline about seasonally, but the price to consumers may not vary greatly. Storage supplies of pork are below normal, although 6 per cent larger than a year ago. Storage holdings of lard are 34 per cent greater than a year ago. - Hogs .slaughtered in July were the smallest number in 41 years, while prices for the best hogs in August was the highest since 1926. Consumers may expect lower pork prices late next spring or early summer, it was believed. “Prices .of the better grades of slaughter cattle probably will continue, through early fall at least, at or near the present relatively high levels,” the bureau said.
Feeders Decline
The number of cattle on feed in! the Corn Belt states on Aug. 1 was 29 per cent smaller than a year earlier and was the smallest for that date in many years, the! bureau said. Prices may decline some in the late winter or early spring, it was said. The bureau reported prospects for a strong feeder demand for lambs this fall and predicted that prices of both lambs and wool will be maintained at near present levels through November. ! More lambs will be fed in the Corn Belt' this fall feeding season | than last, but about the same num- | ber will be fed in the Western | states, the bureau said. Prices to growers may average about as high as a year earlier, the bureau said.
FORECLOSURES IN JULY TAKE DROP
Times Special WASHINGTON. Sept. 17.—Indiana mortgage foreclosures were 35 per cent less in July this year than in July 1936, the Federal Home Loan Bank Board reported today. Farm mortgages were not included in the figures, Board members said. “Surveys recently made by the; Board in several cities in Indiana showed that occupancy of dwellings | is very high,” the Board statement said. . “Rentals, real estate sales prices and property values have shown definite improvement. This upturn in real estate conditions is ascribed largely to increases in employment and payrolls.” : A 3 per cent increase in the index figure for rentals in Indianapolis was reported by the Board -for the April-July quarterly period.
