Boy Friend May Have No Faith in You, Girl ‘Told.

EAR JANE JORDAN —
Can a woman find happiness with a jealous man even if she loves him? I have gone with a boy of 21 almést two years and he is terribly jealous. He really loves me, I am sure, but he doesn’t have any confidence in me.
He wants to be married soon but can we ever be happy when he is so suspicious? I am not yst 17 and I don’t know whether I really love him enough to marry him.
I am settled for my age and would try to make him happy. I am very fond of him and would marry him without question if it were not for the trait: I mention. I am not jealous and it hurts me to have him that way. Please help me if you can. WONDERING SUE.
ANSWER—Either your boy friend has no faith in you or he has no faith in himself. Try to observe yourself with an objectively and see if there is anything you do which arouses his distrust. Some girls naturally are flirtatious and have a provocative manner toward men which invites their advances. Many girls are unconscious of their teasing attitude and are pained when someone accuses them of having promiscuous tendencies. The fact that you aren’t sure you love your boy friend may cause you to regard other men with an air of expectancy which arouses his jealousy. If he holds himself in low esteem and has no confidence in his ability to hold his own with a woman, he will be watchful for signs ef waning affection, Or, if he has an eye for other girls and fears he will not remain constant, he may conclude that you have the same struggle inside yourself. sometimes a boy admires other men more than he admires himself, and through a feat of the imagination puts himself in his girl's shoes and cannot see how she can resist temptation. It is as if he said to himself, “If I were a girl I would fall for that fellow.” As much jealousy is felt for the other boy as for his fiancee. There are many kinds of jealousy, all of them ugly. A jealous person is moved more by the desire to dominate the loved one than by unselfish love. The kind of jealousy most to be feared is the kind that has no foundation in fact but is a figment of the lover’s imagination. It is hard to fight because no actual cause for it exists. May I advise you against marrying a boy before youre sure of your love for any reason whatsoever? A good rule. to follow is “when in doubt, don’t!” You're too young to tie yourself down to a boy for whom you no longer feel enthusiasm. There is no reason for you to feel so tied to the boy simply because you've gone with him two years.

RIDGE players using T. N. T. (Tierney No Trump) system of bidding originated by Edgar F. Tierney, of Springfield, Mass., have been winning frequent tournament victories. : The T. N. T. system of bidding, which I discussed last fall, has been attracting a good deal of attention, due to its successful use in championship tournaments by players from New England, where it has many adherents.
In this system of bidding, whenever a player opens with one no trump, the bid is forcing for one round, and the partner’s responses are based both on honor strength and distribution, the design being to reach the best contract, no trump or a: suit, as quickly and accurately as possible. In today’s hand, bid by Jack Snadd and Edgar F. Tierney, the author of the system, a major suit game was quickly and accurately reached. South for his opening no trump bid had his exact honor trick requirement, three and one half tricks. North’s response, a jump bid in hearts, showed a mini-

mum of two honor cards in the side suits and a five card heart suit, or a four-card heart suit containing two honors. With the opening lead of the diamond queen the hand was made. Others who opened South’s hand with one spade, showed all four suits before reaching the same contract. With this information, four hearts was beaten with a trump lead. :

unctioning Of Adrenal Gland Vital
Life of Human Cannot Ls Be Sustained If It Is Removed.
By DR. MORRIS FISHBEIN Editor, American Medical Journal
Just above the kidneys lie certain bodies of tissue which are called the adrenal glands, sometimes also the suprarenal glands, because of their position. The removal of these two glands invariably causes death. Therefore, this operation is never done in a human being. When the glands are removed from an animal it loses appetite, becomes rapidly weary, has convulsions “accompanied by vomiting, the blood pressure falls greatly, the
hair falls out, growth stops, and death . eventually results from paralysis of the respiration. Obviously, therefore, the secretions of the adrenal gland, which are poured
| directly into the blood, are con-
cerned to a considerable extent with these functions. There are two parts to the adrenal gland. From one part comes the material called ‘adrenalin, and from another the material called cortin. Adrenalin was one of the first active principles of the gland to be discovered. It now has great use in medicine for many purposes. It influences the sympathetic nervous system. It stoos overaction of the muscles of the stcmach and intestines. It stimulates the closing of the valves of the stomach®and intestines and the muscu1ar action of the uterus. It is used ih asthma because it relaxes the muscular tissue of the brenchial tubes. which in asthma are squeezed shut. It speeds up the changes going on in the nody. increases the sugar metabolism, raises the total amount of sugar in the blood, and increases the rate of breathing. If causes the muscle fibers in the wall of the blcod vessels to contract and thereby promptly raises the blood pressure, so that it is given in cases of shock.
Action Speeded During Excitement
Besides this, it has many other effects of significance. It was shown long ago thats in times of great emotional excitement that these glands pour extra adrenalin into the blood, so that under emotion the blood pressure rises, the blood vessels contract, breathing becomes more rapid and the other effects of adrenalin are witnessed throughout the body. ; The outer portions of the adrenal gland develop a substance called cortin which is also vital for the human being. It is interesting to know that this portion of the adrenal gland is rich ‘in vitamin C.

Duchess Abdicating as Queen Of Fashions, Designers Fear
PARIS, Sept. 8.—The Duchess of Windsor, who gave “Wallis Blue” to the world of fashions last spring, today was giving Parisian designers “the Wallis blues” as it became increasingly apparent that the one-time Baltimore belle was abdicating as queen of fashion. The Duchess, selected by Parisien couturiers as the world’s bestdressed woman after her marriage to the. Duke of Windsor, is not buying any new clothes for the fall, and Paris dressmakers are worried. When the Duchess prepared to leave Wasserleonburg for a brief visit to Hungary, she left no word for her favorite designers, Molyneux, Schiaparelli and Mainbocher, as to what clothes she expecied to buy.
The designers have come gloomily Y
to the conclusion she doesn’t expect to buy any, and they are about ready to demote the Duchess to secondary ranking as a style setter. ‘Hints have been sent by mail and telegraph during the past two weeks; batches of fabric have been expressed and photographs of designs sent by special messenger, but the Duchess has been too busy honeymooning. : While many designers insisted there was nothing to worry about— that the Duchess “couldn’t be expected to pick her fall and winter clothes yet’—the disclosure was made that when she kept three Parisian dressmaking houses working overtime to make her wedding trousseau, she ordered nearly everything in woolens. The designers explained that this was “clever,” because woolens can be used for fall and winter as well
—
#5 summer, there being little change in the lines this year. Thus the Duchess appears to be comfortably outfitted for months to come. Dispatches from Vienna added to the dismal picture. The Duchess has been disappointing the mouniain maidens around Wasserleonburg because she has worn few of her bridal creations, confining herself to simple dresses which she wears again and again. She takes little interest in sports, seldom plays golf with the Duke end never accompanies hin on rountain climbs, such as his hike up the . 6500-foot slopes of the racky Dcbrosch Range behind their honeymoon castle. Yet her figure remains as slim 2s ever, and fashion designers longingly point out th2t she could easily reascend the style tnrone she occupied a few months agc—if she vould only buy a few clothes.
