WATSON DOUBTS POWER OF FD. TO PUNISH FOES
Former Senator Hopes for G. 0. P. Chairman Untouched by Factionalism.
James E. Watson, former Republican Senator from Indiana, hopes the state G. O. P. organizatidbn will select & committee chairman “who is far removed from the committee —someone who has nothing to do with either side of the controversy,” he said while visiting in Indianapolis. ; He referred to the recent fight which brought the resignation of Ivan C. Morgan as committee head and election of John C. Taylor, Danville, as temporary chairman, “The only interest I have in the matter is the return to normal of the party in Indiana,” he said. He added that he could see no possibility of reconciliation between antiNew Deal Democrats of Congress and President Roosevelt, especially after defeat of the President's Supreme Court plan.
Comments on VanNauys Mr. Watson said he was confident that the Democratic leadership would be unable to defeat party members who opposed the President's congressional program. He | was asked about the chances of | Senator VanNuys. “Well, with Fred it may be different,” he said. “VanNuys has & con- | vention to fight and he may be de- | feated there. In other states, candidates for re-election have Pr maries and had we one here, VanNuys would be a hard man to beat. There are plenty of Republicans | who prokably would vote for him on the strength of his stand against the President.”
Hale Kapu
Islanders Startled as Doris Cromwell Terms House Forbidden.
ONOLULU, T. H,, Aug. 24. —The | name of the home being built | here for Mrs. Doris Duke Cromwell, | tobacco heiress, and so-called “richest girl in the world,” was causing | more discussion today than the half- | million dollars or so that the house | will cost. The name is “Hale Kapu,” which is Hawaiian for “Forbidden House.” It startled the islanders who boast of a legendary Hawaiian hospitality. Tt is being constructed without guest rooms. However, the architecture was said to have been inspired by that of Ali Kapu of Ispahan, Persia, which made it appear that perhaps the Cromwells had their tongues partially in their cheeks. It is situated on a rocky beach with a background of palm trees, and designed in the Persian style with elaborate terraces, pools, and gardens. However, the living quarters are not large.

WOMEN WHO HOLD |
THER MEN |
NEVER LET THEM KNOW
O matter how much your back aches and your nerves scream, your husband, because he is only & man, can never understand why you are so hard to live with one week in every month. Too often the honeymoon express is wrecked by the nagging tongue of a three-quarter wife. The wise woman never lets her husband know by outward sign that she is a victim of periodic pain. For three generationsone woman has told another how to go '‘smiling through with Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. It helps Nature tone up the system, thus lessening the discomforts from the functional disorders which women must endure in the three ordeals of life: 1. Turning from girlhood to womanhood. 2. Preparing for motherhood. 3. Approaching “middle age.” | Don't be a three-quarter wife, take LYDIA E. PINKHAM'S VEGETABLE COMPOUND and
