rence, in consideration of the several agreements of the said Board of Directors for Utilities hereinatter contained, does hereby grant, authorize, empower and permit said City of Indianapolis, Indiana. Its successors and assigns, to enter upon the streets, alleys, avenues and otner public places and parks of the said town and to excavate and construct the necese sary ditches, trenches, conduits and tune nels, and to place, lay, bury, maintain repair, remove and operate, and to transmit and supply gas thereby, a system ot pipes therein of such size, nature and kind as the said City of Indiane apolis, Indiana may require ior the distribution and sale of gas to sald town and the inhabitants thereof for fuel and heating and lighting purposes, together with the right 10 construct, maintain, remove operate and repair all necessary regulators, valves, curb boxes, and other appliances and appurtenances, Subject to the follow« ing conditions, to-wit 1. All work done in or upon any of the streets, alleys or public places in the said town, either in the original construction or in making repairs, shall be aone, and all trenches shall be dug and pipe laid and the trenches or ditches closed within the shortest possible time within which the same can be done with skillfulness and dispatch after work has been once commenced. All work shall be done so as to interfere as little as possible with public use and travel upon said streets, alleys and public ground, and the said Board of Directors for Utilities shall cause the streets and other places to be restored to the condition in which they were just prior to the commencement of such work, and shall cause the streets and other places affected by such work to be cleared of dirt and rubbish result ing from such work. 2. Said Board of Directors for Utilities shall cause to be laid all Sgryice pipes connecting the mains laid under the per~ mission hereby granted, with the premises of the inhabitants of said town as nearly as possible at such points and locations as may meet the approval of the owner or occupant of the property whose premises are to be connected avith such service pipes. Service pipes from the gas mains to property lines shall be put in at the expense of said Citizens Gas and Coke Utility, and the continuation of such service pipes from the property lines to the location of the consumers’ meters shall be laid under the direction of said Board of Directors for Utilities and the expense thereof shall be paid for by the owner or the occupants of the premises to be connected under the regular pube lished schedule of charges of said Citizens Gas and Coke Utility for the installation of similar services in the City of Indian= apolis. If and when the laying of mains and extensions under this franchise has come menced within one year from the date of ssage of this ordinance, said Board of irectors for Utilities shall cause to be laid mains and service pipes to property lines for the furnishing of gas to such property owners or inhabitants within said Town of Lawrence as apply for gas and are entitled thereto under reasonable rules and regulations avproved by said Board of Directors for Utilities; and the gas so furnished shall be of like quality as and under no less pressure than that furnished by said Board in the City of Indianapolis; and the rates charged for gush Sas oF JOr Sueh Seryices shall not reater an charged therefor withi the City of Indianapolis. h 3.
