Cotton Futures Hit
Lowest in Four Years
By United Press NEW YORK, Stocks declined again today, the sinking to new lows since | Aug. 6.
Domestic bonds declined as U.
anese bonds made new lows for the the year. Curb stocks declined. Cotton futures ntade new 4- -year lows, breaking almost $1 a bale. Lack of interest in the stock market, with many traders absent on vacations, was a major influence. Some were wary of the railroad wage situation and easiness carriers was a factor in weakness of the general list.
Business news fas favorable, but ignored. Steel scrap prices mounted as a result of Japanese buying. American Agricultural Chemical reported for its fiscal year ended June 30 net equal to $8.86 a share, against $4.71 in the preceding year. Mack trucks in the second quarter had net equal to $1.08 a share against 67 cents a year ago. A disconcerting item was weakness in U. S. Steel, which touched 115% off 2%. Considerable unloading was noted and steel’'s volume exceeded any other board. Bethlehem dipped more than | a point. Motors were easier with Chrysler off nearly 2. General Motors at its | low of 567s was down 13s. n o "

HOGS STEADY TO “ QUARTER HIGHER AS LAMBS DROP
Vealer Prices Advance 50 Cents on Local Market.
Today's hog market approached a pitched battle proportion for a good part of the forenoon session | 3 when buyers’ and sellers’ ideas were | wide apart, according to the Bureau |2 of Agricultural Economics, U, 8. | Department of Agriculture. Sellers |
on with their eyes on higher trends | ,,
at outside points, stubbornly stuck to higher asking prices. After two hours of jockeying both sides had to yield and the trade was established on a steady to 25 cents higher basis. Weights between 250 and 300 pounds were up most. Top was 10 cents higher at $12.65 on choice 210 to 225-pound weights. Sows advanced 25 cents under active buying support. Generally steady prices ruled in all branches of the cattle trade. Some improvement was in evidence for common and medium grass steers on local account, this particularly applying to kinds selling between $7 and $10. Practical top on steers rested at $14.85 for around 1080-pound weights. Vealers rose 50c as supplies fell short of trade requirements and shippers competed actively. Good to choice offerings bulked at $11.50 to $12.00, with others largely $10.50 downward. Steady to 25 cents lower lamb prices accompanied weaker dressed trade reports and declines at other large markets yesterday. A few lots of strictly choice lambs held a top of $10.50, but bulk were good to merely choice kinds at $10 to $10.25.

WHEAT PRICES DROP 3 CENTS; CORN FOLLOWS
Argentine Rains and Winni« peg Weakness Send Market Down.
By United Press CHICAGO, Aug. 19.—Wheat fue tures tumbled 3 cents or more a bushel in active trading on the Chicago Board of Trade today when prospects for large sales to foreign nations evaporated. The market added to the decline of yes terday and the September and May deliveries dropped to new lows for the movement. At the close wheat was 3's to 33 cents lower, September $1.07; corn was 1% to 13% cent lower, September 98 cents, and oats were 's to '2 cent lower, September 29% cents. Heavy liquidation, coupled with stop-loss orders from the pit at the opening today and continued to be the dominating factor during the rest of the session. Accumulation of winter wheat at terminal points and the fact that the spring wheat crop is moving to market and Canadian grain will be set in motion in the near future added to the pressure created by the failure of European countries to take on supe plies of United States grain. Weak« ness in Liverpool and reports of Lain in Argentina also contributed to the bearish feeling in the pit,
