HOGS DECLINE 10 TO 33 GENTS IN LOCAL TRADE

Porker Prices Drop to

$12.95 Top as Buying Demand Narrows.

Hog prices tumbled sharply to start the new week. Eleven leading markets had total supplies that compared about on a parity with a week ago, but buying demand narrowed despite fairly cheerful eastern fresh pork reports, according to the Bureau of Agricultural Economics, United States Department of Agriculture. The decline here measured unevenly 10 to 35 cents, weights scaling below 210 pounds being hit hardest. Buyers claimed that outlet for light

|cept at sharp reductions in price. Top of the market was $12.95 for

Sows shared in the general down- , turn, ranging 25 to 50 cents lower to | bulk at $10.50 to $11.25. Hog receipts

There was a very scant showing of slaughter steers and yearlings today. Demand, however, was indiffer- | ent and prices favored the weak side, | ranging unevenly steady to 25 cents, | lower. Two loads of yearling steers | scaling 985 pounds at $14.25 set the practical top for the day, although there were odd head upward to $16.50. Best heifers here cashed at $14 in a steady trade. Cows and bulls were also steady. Vealers started off the period with little change from the close last week. Good to choice offerings held at $11 to $11.50, with lower grades

Under the support of sharp advances in eastern dressed lamb values, the live trade here held fully | steady to strong. Strictly choice offerings were scarce. Merely good to choice lambs sold 14 from $10.75 to $11.

WHEAT PRICES DROP SLIGHTLY AS CORN GAINS

Foreign Weakness Declines Leading Cereal Bids in Chicago.

By United Press CHICAGO, Aug. 16.—Wheat prices drifted into lower ground on the Chicago Board of Trade today as speculators took an indifferent atti= tude as a result of lower cables from abroad and reports of more favor= able weather conditions in Australia, At the close wheat was 3% to 1a cent lower, September, $1.11%, corn was % cent lower to 2's cents high= er, September, 99 cents, and oats were unchanged to !4 cent lower,

16.—The |

1 September, 29'c cents. Prices dropped as much as a cent | a bushel in the initial dealings, ral« lied later in response to light offer= | ings but dipped again at the close when sellng picked up. Corn futures met with a heavy de= mand in the opening trade and shot up for net gains of 1 to more than 2 cents a bushel with the new crop deliveries showing the most strength, Light receipts were aided in advanc= ing prices. The market reacted from the day’s high point from the close, however, in sympathy with the heavy tone in wheat,

Indiana Wheat

Report Favorable

CHICAGO, Aug. 16.—A report from Lafayette today said that “although no records are likely to be broken, indications are now that Indiana farmers will have one of the best crop scasons of recent years. The winter wheat crop in Indiana was expected to yield 34,692 bushels and the corn crop was expected to run 186,480,000 bushels.” The Canadian Wheat Board was reported carrying on negotiations for storage space for use in keeping the 1938 seed-grain requirements, This grain is to be stored particularly for the use of drought-stricken farmers and storage will probably i be at Saskatoon, Lethbridge, Moose« jaw and Calgary. The oats crops in Illinois will be the best in 20 years, a report said today. The corn crop is good and soy beans and fruit ruil crops excellent.
