Desire to Play Hamlet.

NEW YORK, Aug 5.— (NEA) —Apropos of a marquee fitle, “You Can't Have Everything”: George Abbott, Broadway's most | successful showman, still mhintains | a burning desire to produce al unique and outstanding version of | “Uncle Tom's Cabin.’ His recent | effort, entitled “Sweet River,” was | a flop. For years Charlie Chaplin has | cherished an unconsummated desire to play “Hamlet.” Comedian Jack Pearl has ambi- | tions to be a David Warfield, but remains confined to comedy. Carroll Yearns for Art

Earl Carroll, successful with a host of musical revues, has yet to | produce an arty drama, an accomplishment he has been trying to attain for years. The promising comedy team of Mitchell and Durant split up because Mitchell always had yearned | to be a leading man and get away | from comedy. Sally Rand long has been the | darling of expositions and fairs at | fabulous salaries, Yet, because she | wanted to get away from fan dances |

and become a serious, dramatic actress, she gladly toils for a pittance | in summer stock, | Marguerite Churchill would glad- | ly sacrifice Broadway and Hollvwood fans to become a successful | writer, and Bert Lytell long has | been desirous of becoming a mo- | tion picture producer, despite his | success as a stage and radio star.
