the back of the station and then rifled the cash drawer.

Two trucking associations, dissatisfied with a proposed compromise, today threatened to take legal steps to force the City to open North Side streets to truck traffic. This action was announced after the Mayor's Truck Advisory Committee in its final meeting was unable to offer any new solution to the two-year-old problem. “Truckers apparently will have to take an appeal to the courts to find a safe route into the city,” Ryan B. Hall, Indiana Motor Traffic Association executive secretary, said. A similar statement was made by M. D. Nickel, Indiana Regulated Highway Carriers, Inc. executive secretary. The Mayor's committee yesterday repeated its former suggestion that trucks come south on State Road 431 to 62a St, and then go east on 62d St. to Keystone Ave. Then they could go south on Keystone Ave, to the Allisonville Road intersection and around Fall Creek Blvd. to the new 38th St. bridge over Fall Creek. From there trucks could use various routes into the eastern section of the City. Truckers, however, say this route is "unsafe.”

Two Streets Open Truck traffic has been prohibited from all North Side streets except Northwestern Ave. and Keystone Ave. by ordinances passed at the request of property owners in the last few years. Mr. Nickel precipitated a debate at the committee meeting when he suggested that all ordinances banning truck traffic be repealed. “The committee originally at the first meeting voted to remove all bans. Yet since political pressure has been exerted by North Side residents, the vote today is the exact opposite. It's a political scare entirely, and a sellout for political reasons,” he said. Residents Protest David T. Campbell, Golden Hills Civic Association president, and T. B. Dodson, North Indianapolis Better Business League president, were spokesmen for the Northwestern Ave. property owners, who do not want ail the truck traffic routed their way, as was suggested by a subcommittee. moved all bans, and added “the City Council would not be so politically dumb as to pass such a repeal ordinance.” The motion to lift all bans was defeated by a 6-to-2 vote of the committee, with the two trucking association representatives voting for it. The committee went on record, however, as recommending the construction of a belt highway around the City as a long-range solution.
