Employers Aren't Interested In His Private Life, Survey Shows.
The average employer in Indi-
ana picks up his employees as he || finds them, hires them on their |: ability to handle jobs and is not in- |i terested in their private lives, a |#§
survey by the Indiana State Employment Service revealed today.
The survey showed 1129 reques's |:
for workers filed with the Employment Service by employers in June had no preferences except general qualifications for the type of work to be done. The marital status of workers was asked in only 140 requests. Nationality of mother and father was aked in 88 and religious preferences in 52 cases.
Owners or Renters?
Six requests wanted to know whether job seekers owned their homes or rented property, while 41 sought to find out whether prospective employees owned a motor car or held a driver's license. The survey showed that employers of stenographers and clerks were the most interested in the marital status of their prospective employees. An assembling plant requested to know the religion of 15 prospective job-holders, while in the case of 24 domestic workers the church attended was requested. Nationality played an important part in requests for cooks, dishwashers, domestic workers, waiters and waitresses.
