INSTITUTIONAL HEADS BARTER FOOD SUPPLIES
Ft. Wayne School Rhubarb Goes to Knightstown; Others Trade.
State institution superintendents are bartering to obtain supplies. A 1urplus of a commodity raised by cone institution is traded to another for something it needs, J. D. Hull, State Farms Supervisor, said. “his is how it all started: After the Ft. Wayne State School for Feeble-Minded Youth canned as much of its bumper crop of rhubarb as would be needed, Dr. W, F. Dunham, superintendent, looked about for someone who could use five or six tons which remained. Mr. Hull was notified of the oversupply. As a result a truck went to Ft. Wavne and carted rhubarb to the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home at Knightstown, where L. Cortner, stvperintendent, set canning plant to work. Patients at Central State Hospital were 8 served rhubarb sauce after more than a ton of the surplus herb was | delivered there.
They Start Trading Dr. James W. Milligan, super- | tendent of Madison State Hospital, | found his institution overstocked | with about 28,365 pounds of cab- | bage. He notified Mr. Hull, who | sought a market. Dr. Kenosha Sessions, of the Indiana Girls’ School, had a surplus of 1000 pounds of | lard, which she didn’t need. She | accepted several tons of oaths
