1937 JOBLESS COMPENSATION

LISTS INCREASE.

43,000 More | Employees | Covered Now Than On Jan. 1.

Clarence A. Jackson, State Un- | employment Compensation adminis- | trevor, today reported 43,000 more | employees now have compensa- | tion accounts than on Jan. 1, 1937. |

The Competisation Bureau's reports show 8032 employers now have made payments to the unemployment reserve and pool funds for 639,713 employees. On Jan. 1 only 569,005 employees had been listed for future unemployment compensation.

The reserve-pool ‘account of employers has grown, Mr. Jackson said. from $6,728,167.10 on Jan. 1 to $14,626,301.81 today.

65,000 Covered

He estimated that with the money now at hand the State could pay 65,006 unemployed workers an | average of $i5 a week for 15 weeks | or the maximum benefits under the | compensation plan. However, unemployment payments to workers are not effective until April, 1938, and by that time Mr. Jackson estimates the pool-reserve will have reached $25,000,000. Average total of monthly payments of employers into the poolreserve is estimated at $1,200,000. Five-sixths of these payments are placed in the employer reserve accounts while one-sixth goes into the pool account. Employees’ con- | tributions ceased following an | amendment to ‘the ‘act passed hy | the 1937 Legislature.
