ELECTR RATE HEARING NEARS FINAL STAGES
Submission of Briefs and Last Arguments to Precede Order. Only two major technicalities to-
day stood between the end of the Indianapolis Power & Light Co.
rate hearings and the final rate |
| order to be prepared by the Indiana | Public Service Commission. { When all important testimony in! the case was concluded ‘late yesterday, attorneys for the utility and Public Counselor Ralph Hanna started preparing their briefs, be presented by Aug. 13. The Commission set Sept. 8 as final argu-
ment day, the concluding step be-
fore the final order is written. The case started early in 1934, when Senator Minton, then -Public Counselor, petitioned the Cemmission to order the local utility to show cause why rates should not be reduced. After hearings, the
order ‘was made and the inventory | §
and appraisal, estimated to have cost rate payers approximately $600,000, were started.
Many Exhibits Introduced
Last September, hearings began on the valuation, income and fair return expected by the company. Hundreds of exhibits, tending to establish the real and intangible valuation have been introduced. The Commission is expected to take approximately a month after final arguments to perfect the rate schedule order. Reductions in lower brackets are anticipated, Commissioners indicated at the close of the hearings.
Approximately $1,000,000 already
has been sliced from consumer annual bills by reductions ordered by the Commission during the hearings.
