OVER $31,000 OF RAISE INBUDGET IS FOR SALARIES

Most of Wage Increases Mandated by 1937 Legislature.

More than $31,000 of the proposed $220,000 or more increase in the Marion County 1938 budget is for salary raises, an analysis disclosed today. { Most of these salary increases were provided in laws passed by the 1937 Legislature. All chief deputies of county officials were allowed | 1a1ses ranging from $1000 to $2200 arnually, In addition, the County Recorder was allowed by: statute to collect $2000 in fees, raising his pay from $4000 to $6000 annually.

Eleven of 13 county and municipal courts asked for increases ranging from $100 to $1000, mostly to replenish depleted law libraries. Circuit and Probate Courts were the only ones not asking for larger appropriations.

Election Is Major Item

The major item of increase is $129,000 for the primary and general elections next year. The total 1938 budget requests, exclusive of the County Commissioners’ list, Auditor's office and the Infirmary, which have not been | completed, totaled $1.220,368.
