Three Colors Used
On the new two-way road east of Indianapolis, engineers designed the low curb to separate the lanes because it was impossible to obtain enough right-of-way to erect a parkway between the 20-foot lanes. The curb, or island, designed to promote safety, is to be four feet | wide at the base and two feet wide at the top, rising four inches above the pavement surface. Three colors—white, vellow and natural—are to be used on the sloping sides, and black on the top By use of different colors; highway engineers hope to determine which has the greatest visibility under all driving conditions.
