Silver Anniversary Past, Mae West Admits as She Tells of Wedding t to Ac tor

Buxom Star at Last | Repudiates Denial of Nuptials.

By United Press HOLLYWOOD, July 8. — Mae | West, buxom film star who posed as | a spinster, has celebrated her silver wedding anmversary, she admitted today in acknowledging her marri-' age 26 vears ago to Frank Wallace, | vaudeville actor. She said in answer to Wallace's | Superior Court action to established validity of their marriage that she had never divorced him, but that their marriage had never been consummated. She said as far as she knew Wallace had never divorced her She admitted the marriage took place in Milwaukee, April 11, 1911. However, she assumed the role of the injured party by contending that Wallace married Ray Blakesly in New York City on Feb. 6, 1916. In her answer she said Wallace was divorced by Miss Blakesly on May 1, 1985, in New Jersey. Miss West charged that in obtaining a license on Feb. 3, 1916, to marry Miss Blakesly, Wallace “swore falsely” he had never married and had no former wife or wives either living or dead. Miss West asked the court to refuse “any declaration or decree” to Wallace, who has sued both in New York and California to have the actress declared his legal wife. Miss West's attorneys entered a motion to set aside an order calling for her appearance in court Friday to give a deposition in the case. A hearing on the motion was then set for Friday. At that time her attorneys are expected to move that Wallace's action be dismissed on the ground she had admitted the single question he had sought adjudicated. Wallace has also asked for division of community property which he estimated ran “well in excess of $100,000.” The New York courts threw out

his suit, and a Los Angeles judge did | West and Frank Wallace. TIndica-

likewise, but granted him permission to file an amended action. To his new action Wallace tacked a sheaf of letters he wrote Miss West ee

time to time, imploring her to recognize e him as her husband.

Revised Plan Sets 40-Cent Minimum, 40- Hour Week, |

By United Press WASHINGTON, July 8. — The Senate Education and Labor Committee today voted a favorable re- | port on a revised wages-hours bill |

creating a Labor Standards Board | with authority to fix wages up to 40 cents an hour and establish work weeks of 40 hours or more. The revised measurue carried no minimum wage figure and no maximum hour figure. It was generally rewritten from the original proposal drafted upon President Roosevelt's recommendations. Authority to the Board to set minimum wages at not more than 40 cents an hour and maximum working weeks at not less than 40 hours. 3. Discretion to the Board to autheorize wages below 40 cents an hour and working weeks greater than 40 hours on & basis of individual industrial conditions. 4. Geographic differentials are allowed as well as seasonal exemptions for industries such as canning and a broad exemption of all engaged in agriculture or fishing.
