$12.85 Top Price Paid for Choice Heavies Here; Vealers Steady.

Erratic price swings continued to feature the hog trade here today according to the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Despite light receipts locally and bullish outside advices the general trend was lower. Light lights and pigs held steady, but weights between 160 and 300 pounds declined 15 cents, while 300 pounds and up

lost 25 cents. Top of the market dipped to $12.85. Trading in all classes of killing cattle ruled moderately active today and prices were fully steady. For the size of the crop there was a fair showing of choice steers and yearlings. Best here consisted of three loads strictly choice around 1275pound weights at $15.50. There were yearlings at $14 and $14.50, while a load of mediumweights brought $14. Moderate supplies and higher prices at other centers found local vealer values supported at fully steady levels. Good to choice grades went at $10 to $10.50, mediums largely $8 to $9. A good demand on top of the midweek upswing around the market circle resulted in 50-cent higher lamb prices today. The advance was chiefly on good to choice grades at $11 to $11.50.
