With this as a starting point, the Garden people probably will develop several other angles, which if respected by the court, might well lead to very satisfying returns on their part and very discouraging consequences to the defendants, especially Messrs, Braddock and Gould who can’t afford a tap of considerable size. They didn’t do so well at the Chicago box office. Mr. Jacobs is in a happier position. He wound up with the heavyweight champion—this was the main idea anyway—and besides he can afford a bulky tap if the court rules against him. In three previous court actions | designed to stop the fight the Garden people were defeated. But the current action is entirely different in character and it is un-

wise to attempt to anticipate the outcome on the basis of what was done in the earlier moves.

An Amusing Angle

Aside from the immediate cash, which may be significant or insignificant, I don’t see what the Garden people can hope to gain in og ense. No matter what or how EO . decides the heavyweight championship has been lost. But all along Col. Kilpatrick has been talking about the sanctity of a contract and apparently this is his chief determination—to make this ontract stand up. ’ The business end of the prize fight | racket is something that can be approached only by the most insensitive of beaks, sending off as it does a much more nauseating odor | than the physical antics of the large | hooligans of the ring, who for the | most part, are in there doing the | best they can and with whatever | manly honor they command. i The spectacle of a fight organiza- | tion attempting to inject a few scattered drops of legitimate busi- | ness decency into the racket is both | startling and amusing and those who have its interests closest to heart are frankly sceptical of the consequences, holding that the in- | troduction of such awesome words |

DAVENPORT, Iowa, July 1.—The Terre Haute, Ind. and Bloomington, Ill. baseball clubs have withdrawn from the Three-I League because of financial difficulties, it was announced today. The league, oldest organization of its kind among Class B clubs, is now reduced to four clubs, Moline, Ill.; Clinton, Iowa; Peoria, Ill, and Decatur, Ill. The remaining teams agreed to split the rest of the schedule for the season, with the half-way mark set for July 3. Moline was declared the ‘Winner of the first half.
