Regulations to Apply to Interstate Contract Trucks, Carriers.

The Indiana State Safety Committee today announced the adoption of Interstate Commerce Commission safety regulations for interstate contract trucks and common carriers. " Safety authorities view the com- - mittee action as an added impetus to the movement for I. C. C. adop-

tion of Federal regulations to fix safety rules for private motor vehicles. : “We adopted the I. C. C. regulations,” said Don Stiver, superintendent of public safety and chairman of the Indiana committee, “as they pertain to contract trucks and

busses operating interstate. There is |

a slight variation in the I. C. C. regulations with ours, so that for trucks and carriers operating only within the State our rules will be in force.

Announce Campaign

Indorsing the action of the State committee, officials of the Indiana Motor Traffic Association announced a campaign to teach truck drivers .additional highway precautions. Heeding Mr. Stiver’s warning to all motorists that the use of fog lights is illegal in Indiana, and that their use is permitted only in emergencies when visibility otherwise is impossible, the Association is to stress the point to truck drivers. State Police will be tolerant only in emergencies, Mr. Stiver declared, and will make arrests for promiscuous use of such lights by motorists.

Regulations Form Code

The I. C. C. safety regulations for trucks and busses form a code requiring equipment such as flares, fire extinguishers, special type of directional or side lights and other fixtures making for greater safety on the highways.
