Record Field Enters Tourney

By United Press NEW YORK, June 24—A record field of 160 will compete for the 39th intercollegiate golf championship at Oakmont, Pa., June 28-July 3, Charles S. Munson Jr. of Yale, president of the I. G. A. A, announced today. The field exceeds by 29 the previous high entry list of 131 names in 1935. Thirty-seven colleges and universities were represented, one more than the former high of 36 last year. The individual title will not be defended, Charles Koscis, last year’s winner from University of Michigan, having graduated. The 26 teams entered for the Maxwell Cup, won by Yale last year, set another new standard, surpassing by five the 21 squads two years ago. Paul Leslie, who “lost to Koscis 6 and 5 in the finals at the North Shore Golf Club, Glenview, Ill, last year, will be back on the Louisiana State University team in addition to trying for the individual title.
