come true this month.
Miss Roesner, an assistant in the Butler publicity office, left today Miss Preston in white marquisette for New York and is to embark at noon Saturday on the S. S. Caledonia were presented to 500 guests from
for Edinburgh, Scotland, When she sets foot in this city of bagpipes: and kilts July 6, she hopes to have two surprises awaiting her. The first, and principal reason for her trip, is°to realize her childhood ambition of meeting three Scotch girl friends with whom she has been corresponding sightunseen since grade school days. The second gala event about which she is all agog is the scheduled visit of the King and Queen of England, with-their daughter Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret Rose, July 6, in Edinburgh.
Heather in Their Hats
The young Scotch women who are exactly Miss Roesner’s age, she says, are to be at the boat and probably will identify themselves in the crowd | by wearing wee bits of heather in their hats, just to make themselves recognizable as her hostesses, she adds.
After a few weeks spent in Edinburgh she will travel south through England and is to return to Indianapolis in August. Mrs. Lewis, who is also on the Butler staff, is going in an opposite direction—to Alaska. “Why Alaska?” we asked, wondering if Ernie Pyle's “Vagabond” column in The Times had sold her on the idea. But, no, she always has wanted tc go to Alaska, and so this summer she just decided to gratify her own wish.
Trip to Take Two Months
She hasn't had much time, she says, to go shopping for Alaskan clothes so she plans to. toss a few sports clothes and a leather jacket in a bag and set forth unescorted. En route to the West coast she is to visit | Yellowstone National Park for a few days and is to sail on the S. S. Cordova from Seattle. Mrs. Lewis will be gone two months altogether, counting the time she intends to spend with relatives in California, upon her return from the land of igloos. Each young woman at the moment is eager to be off in the direction which her own travel compass points . . but we’ll wager next season it will be a different story. If these travelers are any kind of salesmen, when they get together again it’s likely that Miss Roesner will have a yen to go to Alaska and Mrs. Lewis will pack up for a trip to Scotland! (M. B. W.)
