in, he was placed in the larger trough which ‘was packed with ice. The draining device kept the water from contacting his body. Then, as his body temperature lowered, he was transfered to the second bed where a smaller amount of ice kept him at the proper temperature. The method was not entirely satisfactory, but it was the best that could be set up in the emergency, Dr. Myers said.
More than 200 persons were treated in this way during a two-
weeks period last summer.

‘this condition,” he asked Dr. Myers. “The only remedy is an automatic cooling system,” the superintendent replied. The result was a gift of $10,000 by the philanthropist, who wished to remain anonymous. © At first it was decided to install a cooling system in one large room. Engineers’ surveys, however, showed it would be more economical to equip several rooms with outlets.
Seven Rooms Equipped
Consequently, seven surgery rooms were ordered equipped with the cooling system. Any one of them may be transformed into a heat prostration ward on short notice.
A person suffering from heat prostration is one whose . “body thermostat” has become out of order, according to Dr. Myers. A vic-

Heat victims this summer are to be brought to a dry, cold room. Special apparatus will enable concentration of the cool air in one room if necessary, Dr. Myers said. The cool air unit will provide a

The air conditionnig unit will be constructed so that the air circulates in each room individually and does not carry infectious matter from one room to the other. The installation of the system will be completed next week. ‘One of the most valuable improvements in the hospital's history,” Dr. Myers terms it.

'STOWAWAYS FOUND IN BAGGAGE OF BUS
Times Special SOUTH BEND, June 16.—Juvenile authorities today were holding two modern “blind baggage” riders. When a bus driver opened the baggage compartment of his bus here yesterday he found tucked in a corner two grimy-faced Chicago boys who said they were on their way to Pittsfield, Pa., and chose that method of transportation as an economy measure.
