JAMES W. CARR QUITS POSITION WITH CHAMBER
Riley Hospital Committee
Job to Take All His Time, Secretary Says.
nme te
James W. Carr, Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce secretary, resigned today. He said he would devote all his time to his duties as secretary of the Joint Executive Commiittee of the James Whitcomb Riley |Hospital and the Riley Memorial Association. In announcing his resignation, in a letter to William H. Book, Chamber executive vice president, Mr. Carr said: “To undertake several new or unfinished projects I find that it will be necessary for me to devote full time to committee activities, beginning July 1.” In accepting the resignation, Mr. Book said: ) “Jim Carr filled the bill with the Chamber. He had dual duties in that he was working for the Chamber and still. carrying on his work with the Riley Memorial Association. I understand his desire not to spread himself too thin and to con_centrate on the Riley work. We'll miss him.”
Secretary Since 1922
Mr. Carr has been secretary of the ~ Memorial Association since 1922, : No one will be named to fill the vacancy at present, Mr. Book said. Samuel Mueller, who recentiy was named Chamber promotion director, is to take over the promotion work of the Iormer secretary. - Conducting research work in connection with the life of the Hoosier poet, building up the Riley endowment fund, and handling estates in which money or property had been willed the Association. is to occupy much of his time in his hew post, * Mr. Carr said.
More Work Undertaken
“While working with the Chamber I could not devote my full time to the Association or the Executive -Committee. During the depression little extensive work was carried out, but now an effort is to be made to build up the endowment fund as well as other activities of the Association,” Mr. Carr said. The Joint Executive Committee of the Riley hospital is composed of five members of the board of trustees of Indiana University and five members of the Riley Association. Mr. Carr is married and lives [at 5307 N. Illinois St. He has been with the Chamber of Commerce two and one-half years.
