CLEARER PUBLIC CONCEPTION OF WELFARE URGED

Gottschalk Declares State Supervision of Aid Covers 94,000.

State Department supervises aid to more than 94,000 Indiana citizens. Financial assistance is given 50,000 aged persons, 22,500 dependent children and 2500 blind persons. The department supervises 6357 children in foster and institutional homes, he said, and inspects the conditions under which 6700 persons are housed in other county institutions. . He added that the department also supervises the care of more than | 20,000 persons in State institutions.

The Indianapolis Baptist Association is to provide transportation for people in remote sections who wish to attend services and establish branch Sunday schools and prayer meetings in the gaming year, it was announced today. Noise of Crows in State Lessened by 200,000 Caw, Caws.

WO hundred thousands Crows can make a lot of noise and devour a lot of crops. They won’t any more, though. Nearly that many of the predatory birds have been killed by Indiana conservation clubs participating in the State Conservation Department’s crow control contests. In the 1937 contest alone, the feet from 53,630 crows were turned in to Commissioner Virgil M. Simmons. Taking first place this year was the Patoka Valley Fish and Game Club of Winslow, with 17,626. The Chain-O-Lakes Gun Club was second with 13,622, and the Randolph County Fish and Game Association third with 10,669.

1600 EXPECTED AT PURDUE FOR 1-H CLUB EVENT

Annual Roundup to Be Held By University for Rural Youths.

/ Times Special LAFAYETTE, Ind, June 8—Approximately 1600 Indiana 4-H club members are expected to attend the nineteenth annual boy’s and girl's roundup to be held at Purdue University June 16 to 18. Dr. Z. M. Smith, state club director and on the university's agricultural staff, stated that programs were being sent to club leaders, county agents and others who will chaperon the township and

county delegates. A health contest is to be a highlight of the threeday session and winners are to rep-

resent the State in the national contest of ‘the 4-H Club Congress, to be held Nov. 27 to Dec. 3 in Chicago. A tabulation of entries for the roundup shows 46 counties are to send livestock judging teams, 43 are to send dairy teams and a like num-

ber of teams will compete in the

corn judging. Twenty poultry and egg judging teams will compete and a small number of entries are listed in the insect, bird, tree, shrub and weed identification contests. A recreational program has been planned for 4-H members including open house in schools and departments of the university.
