Struck by an automobile when he toddled into the street in front of his home, James Bills, 3 (shown on the lap of his brother, George), received fatal injuries. The car driver, Ernest Mills, who took the child to City Hospital, was held under $500 bond pending a coroner's in-
vestigation.

A high school pupil traffic officer today apparently saved an elderly woman from serious injury when she was struck by an automobile. Mrs. Mayme Ivory, 57, of 1853 N. Delaware St., was knocked down by a bakery truck backing into a parking place at 14th and Pennsylvania Sts. Billy Arvin, 13, of 2821 N, Illirais St., Cathedral High .School @upil, a member of the Safety Patrol, was standing on the corner. Seeing Mrs. Ivory fall, he shouted to the driver, Harold B. Armitage, 38, of 1140 Evison St.. who stopped his truck inches from where Mrs. Ivory lay.

the neighborhood of freezing. The messages describe the comfortable if tiny settlement estabJished on the shifting ice floes of the Arctic. Twelve pink, white and green tents have been set yp with a black one in the center. Narrow “streets” separate the tents. each of which has a 10% ice fence around it to serve as a windbreak. Other Fund Requests Of County.
The State Tax Boarfd today approved all but $180.49 of additional apropriations amounting to $29,474 in a hearing on requests from county officials. . In denying the $180.49, which was itemized as salary increases for personnell at the Marion County. Poor Farm, Board members explained that this amount exceeded the 1937 budget. hi William Book, Chamber of Commerce executive vice president and County officials discussed the additional appropriations. The Chamber of Commerce yesterday protested $7979 of the appropriations on the ground that it would “wreck budgef procedures.” County Commissioners. said $1500 of the appropriation, approved recently by the Marion County Council, was to meet higher livestock feed costs at Julietta Hospital farm.
Repair Cost Is Cited
More than $3000, Commissigners explained, is to buy materials for repairing plumbing systems in the Courthouse and for other repairs being done by WPA workers. An item of $190 in the appropriation is to pay wages of an extra bookkeeper in | the treasurer's office. Treasurer Frank McKinney explained the extra bookkeeper was necessary to handle work incident to the new Tax Moratorium Law passed by the 1937 Legislature.
