PUBLIC SCHOOL SUMMER TERM OPENS MONDAY

700 Pupils Expected to Join Classes for Session Ending July 23.

Summer school, for an estimated 700 pupils, begins Monday and con- - tintues through July 23 in the Indianapolis public schools. With the conclusion of regular classes today, summer courses for sixth, seventh, and eighth grads pupils are to be opened in Benjam Harrison school, Delaware and Walnut-Sts. ,and at Crispus Attucks High School. High school pupils are to attend summer sessions at Manual, Tech-Walnut-Sts., and at Crispus Attucks High Schools. Meet at 8 A. M.

Classes are to be held daily from 8 a. m. to noon. Tuition for high school students is $5 a subject; $3 a subject in elementary grades, and. ranging down to $7 for three subjects. The summer schools are supported entively by fees. Virgil Stinebaugh, Assistant School Superintendent in charge of summer sessions, said special courses would be offered in art and . handiwork, including weaving, knitting, embroidery, crocheting, baskeiry, leather tooling and quilting. Two Opportunities Granted flThe summer school,” Mr. Stinebaugh said, “affords pupils two distinet opportunities. First, the schools provide an opportunity to ‘spend the vacation period in directed leisure activities, and second, it enakles. children to receive personal attention and help so they resume their regular school work next fall and join in the activities: of their class.”

Hummer session high school su- |

pervisors are Emmett A. Rice, Shortridge; Bertram Sanders, Manual; H. H. Anderson, Technical, and Russell A. Lane, Attucks. Mrs. Elizabeth Witt, School 62 principal, . is to direct Benjamin Harrison classes, and Mr. Lane also iei| to supervise grade classes at Attucks.
