RUBY MURDER

BULLET FOUND

Slug Is Rome From Body | Of Jewel Collector Taken From Bay.

in United Press WASHINGTON, June 2.—An autopsy physician today withdrew from the body of the mysterious man in the brown beret the zephyrbullet which killed him instantly, silently—incredibly! This newest development in the case of Charles F. Keene, the Washington real estate dealer and jewel collector who |died, aboard a Potomac River night boat two weeks

lice with perhaps the eeriest, weird-

ago, presented Eastern seaboard, po-

| est true-life murder Shigita they ever have attempted to solve. The | elderly, dignified Keene bought ? brown peret the afternoon 'of May| 14, for reasons known only 0 himself, put it on his graying 1ead d boarded old-fashioned ah ler District of Columbia for the i Journey to Norfolk, Va. Some| reports said ne had a $25,000 pigeon-blood ruby in his vest pocket.| On the boat a stranger, red faced, bought a bottle of beer and, without a word, handed it to Keene. | Keene drank it. Then he retired to his canin. Next morning when the ship docked at Norfolk, the door still was locked, but the cabin was empty—except for: Keene's shoes, his smashed wristwatch, his broken eyeglasses, and blood, which had ebbed fom his

jugular vein. A leaden pellet fired from a re-|

i

volver in the hands of mno-one-knows-whom severed that vein— and zephyr-bullet it must have been, because not a soul on the steamer, not even the woman in the cabin next door, heard a sound. Yesterday a Chesapeake Bay fisherman found Keene's body floating near Crisfield, Md. For two weeks the body had been anchored to the bottom of the bay with a suitcase full of such astounding objects as can openers, an autobile jack, a silver mesh bag and a tea strainer.

The satchel had been around Keene's neck. A hastily summoned coroner's jury rendered a verdict of murder.
