| U, TRUSTEES ADOPT FACULTY PENSION SETUP

Teachets of 70 or Older to Be Eligible for Retirement On July 1.
Times Speciai BLOOMINGTON, May 20.—Indiana University faculty members of 70 vears, or older, will be eligible for retirement July 1 under a pension plan adopted by the board of trus-. tees. .
The retirement beneiits are in the form of annuities under contracts issued by the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of New York, an insurance company endowed by the Carnegie Foundation and specializing in insurance annuities for employees of universities and colleges.
The university and the faculty are to share the premium charges, it was announced. Faculty members are to contribute 5 per cent of their pay and the university is to add another 5 per cent, made possible by an annual appropriation of $50,000 by the recent Legislature. Participation will be required of faculty members and administrative officers after one year of service, the board said, with the exception that instructors are to begin par-| ticipation after three academic years’ service. Participation will be ! optional for clerical staff employees with 10 years or more of service and | to employees of junior administrative rank in auxiliary, self-support-ing projects after one year of serv- | ice.

A staff member who pays for 30, years is expected to receive a re-| tirement annuity equal to one-half | his average salary during the 30year period, the trustees said. Annuities after payments over a short- | er period are proportionate, and if | the annuitant chooses to retire before the age of 70, he may do so and take a proportionately smaller | retirement benefit, it was said. trustees said, to enable university | employees to receive retirement | benefits similar to those for public | school teachers and for staff members of leading universities and col- | leges. ; University salaries have been | restored to the 1932 level generally, trustees announced. A major portion of the increase will go into the payment of annuity premiums under the retirement plan.
Y. W. FUND CAMPAIGN HITS $40,055 MARK
Gifts to the Y. W. C. A. campaign fund had reached $40,055 today. Two gifts ° were reported yesterday, $2000 from Mr. and Mrs. William0 H. Coleman, and $150 from the Indianapolis Glove Co. Mrs. Walter Krull, Division 34 leader, led the total receipts for the day with $497. Luncheon meetings were to be held held today and tomorrow at the Central Y. W. C. A. Dr. Jean S. Milner spoke at the luncheon yesterday. YOUTHS ENLIST IN NAVY Robert Glyne Pumphrey, 4910 Winthrop Ave., and James Lee Sparks, 1614 West Michigan St., enlisted in the U. S. Navy yesterday, it was announced at the recruiting station here.
DEMOLAYS ELECT NEW CITY LEADER
Robert Tucker was elected Master Councilor of the Indianapolis Demolay Chapter last night at the annual election held in the chapter house, 1017 Broadway.
Others chosen were Elgin Lee, Senior Councilor and Ronald Dingle, Junior Councilor.
