bers, 17, of 3849 N. Keystone Ave., was hurled from the car, but escaped | injury. The accident occurred near | 18th St. and Emerson Ave.
Hurt and his companion said a woman, driving north on Emerson Ave., swerved to the left to avoid hitting a deep chuck hole. Hurt, who was driving. said he was forced off the side of the\road. One wheel was caught in another deep hole and the other struck the soft shoulder beside| the road, he said. His car turned completely around and then over, pinning him beneath it, part of the machine resting on his head.
Motorist Comes to Aid
Chambers said it was 15 minutes or more before a passing motorist | stopped and helped him lift the car | from Hurt. The woman failed to, stop after the accident, police were told. Mr. Hurt was taken to City | Hospital. A young woman on her way to | City Hospital was injured when the | taxi in which she was riding was| struck by a car driven by Henry F. Schweitzer, 63, of 5136 Park Ave. at W. Michigan St. and White River Blvd.
Suffers New Injuries
Miss Esther Hawarth, 19, of 972 N. Tibbs Ave. whose right leg was in a cast, received additional injuries to the leg and was taken on to City Hospital with her mother, Mrs. Hazel Troutman, 38, of the Tibbs Ave. address, who also was in the taxi. The cab, driven by Arthur Chawchaw, 45, of 1409 E. 11th St. had stopped before crossing the boulevard. Mr. Schweitzer's car, witnesses told police, skidded 60 feet before hitting the taxi. He was arrested on charges of drunkenness, drunken driving and reckless driving. Both cars were badly damaged. ° More than 60 motorists were to face traffic violation charges in Municipal Court today as police | endeavored to eliminate increased | accident . hazards during ideal] motoring weather. “Fatal accidents are more likely | to occur in good weather than in| snow, ice or rain,” Traffic Captain | Lewis Johnson said. “More cars are | on the streets and highways and] drivers are more inclined to speed and take chances.” | Two persons were injured slightly | in overnight accidents. Twenty of] the motorists arrested yesterday | were charged with running pref- | erential streets.
