~ in Shortridge High School, was shot |

and killed accidentally today while! on his way to hunt crows. | He was accompanied by Roy Clift, | 19, of 639 W. 30th St., and James: Marvel, 17, of 1261 W. 31st St. Clift driving and Owens seated between him and Marvel, Clift stopped their car in front of the farm of C. E. Bragg, R. R. 2, Box 439, to ask permission to hunt on his property. Marvel told deputy sheriffs, they said, that he got qut of the car and walked about 50 feet when he heard a miiffled shot. He ran back to the car and found Owens bleeding from a wound below the right shoulder, he told deputy sheriffs. A gun was lying on the ground beside the car.

Doctor Is Summoned

* When Marvel asked what had happened, neither Clift nor Owens could tell him, he told deputy sherifls. When a physician arrived, Owens was dead. The 12-gauge, hammer - action shotgun had been carried between Owens and Clift, deputy sheriffs were told. According to the deputies, Owens apparently had thrown the gun out of the car and the hammer struck the running board, discharging the weapon, One hammer was broken off when they arrived, deputies said. :

BAN ON RADIOS

Dunkards Reject Proposal

To Permit Receiving Sets’ in Homes.

By United Press CAMDEN, May 19.—The ban on dies in the homes of Dunkards, a ne sect of German Baptists, continued today under a resolution adopted at the naticnal convention. By a thunderous vote, members of the “old order” rejected the proposal of a block of “modern delegates” from Ohio to permit radio receiving sets in the homes of members of the faith. Against the vigorous opposition of “old guard” members at the national convention 20 years ago, delegates voted permission to members: to place. telephones in their homes. Only recently were Dunkards permitted to own automobiles. The conference also voted to con-

tinue in effect rules prohibiting all musical instruments in homes of members of the German sect and accepted the invitation of the Ohio delegation to hold the 1938 convention in that state. Approximately 2500 persons, representing every state in the union, have gathered on a 160-acre farm near here fox the 56th annual convention of the order which closes today. The convention meetings are held in huge tents. Food, cooked in jarge vats and served in tin pans with a spoon as the only accessory, is provided free each day.
